The only choice

Just want to go on record: We moved here from Chicago (and I worked in Hyde Park, at U of C). Our kids go to New York Elem and we're very happy. Let's fight to save all of the schools.

For second election in a row, east Lawrence turnout dwarfed by west

"DWARFED" by 6.8 percentage points? Clever use of hyperbole to aggravate class tensions. Thank goodness those dirty eastside residents are too stupid for math! Then they'd know this isn't a story at all!

Winter weather related closings and cancellations

Yard Sale, Art Sale, Yart Sale. It's an annual event with over 30 years under its belt. Don't worry about it. Everything will be okay, rogue "t"s and wordplay and all.

Project Runway Season 5, Episode 10 - Working girl

Sarah, when you wrote, "That's true for reality shows too. Shows like Project Runway...want someone who is moving forward and not moving back."I thought you might be starting a discussion about how tired the format for Project Runway is getting. Is anyone else getting really, really bored with cutting to all of the "Heidi said-- and I was like WHAT??" and the "oh MY GOOOODD" clips? If they cut those, the show would maybe be 15 minutes long. Do they really freak out that much?? I'd like to see better video of the clothes, but that's just me.Also: she's cute as a button, but I've been sick of Kenley since the beginning. The Bettie Page/vintage 50s stuff is played. Maybe that's the result of living in Lawrence; perhaps it's more of a novelty in NY.

Curb comments

Jonathan, I'd like to see real names required and displayed with comments. That way, the dialogue really is closer to the coffee shop/watercooler conceit people often use to defend the forum.

Elite eight

Lounger, in order for an artist to receive a Phoenix Award, he or she must first be nominated. Next year, I encourage you to nominate those you think should be recognized. Indeed, there is an amazing wealth of talent in this town--we're lucky in that respect. Please help the lesser-known talent get the recognition they deserve. As for the ages of the recipients, that is in part due to the "length of activity" quotient of the Phoenix Award.

The awards ceremony yesterday was one of the most inspiring events I've ever attended in Lawrence. It was humbling being in the same room with such an esteemed group.
