Mirth Cafe closing Monday, moving to new location downtown

I love going to the Mirth. I've always enjoyed great food (especially their corn chowder) and prefer their coffee to any place else downtown. I have noticed over the last year that the dining room air occasionally becomes so thick with grease that my eyes burn, and I would leave smelling like a kitchen, so their lack of hoods was clearly becoming a problem as business increased. Nevertheless, I am a loyal customer, highly recommend them, and wish them lots of luck in their new location.

Stipends for student-athletes? KU has mixed feelings

“This is a way to give them something in return for what they give to the school,”

How about a free college education? I think that's worth something.

Unpaid $57.69 dental bill decided by Kansas appeals court

I also had a bad experience with Dr. Rainbolt. Unfortunately, I paid. I wish I had acted as this gentleman had. He had told me a 3 part procedure was covered by my insurance and two days after my first visit refused to finish the procedure until I was able to cough up 2 grand. It became apparent that my trust had been intentionally violated for his own personal gain.

First Bell: Consultants to help Consolidation Working Group; principals keep tabs on process as they ‘multitask’

This is absolute torture, wondering whether or not my child will be forced to leave the school and faculty that we all love. I felt the comment about principals on laptops was a little snide. Were these professionals supposed to sit riveted throughout the entire (seemingly pointless) meeting as opposed to taking care of the business of running their schools? I hope I misinterpreted the remark.

He was walking against the the "don't walk" signal. The cars were following the green light.

When I got home I checked ljWorld to see if the guy was still alive. Then i posted my account. The editor of the story called me up to get an official account and added it to the story. If I understood the editor correctly, he got to the scene at about the same time as the life flight helicopter, thus the video.

Pedestrian flown to hospital, in critical condition following accident near 23rd and Iowa streets

We were at the stoplight, northbound. Guy was coming across the east side of 23rd street, headed south. He slipped and fell hard on the north island, between the turn lane and the straight lane. He got up and stumbled across 23rd. A few cars missed him, then a truck headed eastbound hit him. He flew over the truck and it appeared he was hit by a second vehicle. We called 911 and related those details to them. The people in the truck and a few others got out to help the guy. We pulled into the Freddy's parking lot to finish the 911 call and check if the guy survived. Police were on the scene within 1 minute, and the ambulance arrived in about 2 minutes.
