Letter: Misbehaving

So the hecklers bothered her more than our sitting Representative potentially lying? She didn't say if she did any fact checking on Jenkins' statements, but that would seem to be required if she was making up her mind about who to vote for from the happenings at one event.

Lawrence artist miffed after Topeka restaurant removes Brownback painting

I read from another source that the manager of the restaurant was the wife of the building's owner. So it doesn't look like the landlord was making the tenant do anything they didn't want.

It may be censorship, but there is nothing wrong a private business making this choice of not displaying a political message.

I dislike Brownback and all he stands for but...

After the Chick-Fil-A fiasco, when will businesses learn that politics and business don't mix well. If you want to alienate customers, use your business for political reasons.

Heard on the Hill: Chronicle of Higher education sheds light on state education funding, Kansas State basketball attendance (it's up!) and a bunch of other KU data, too

If the amount of funding from the State of Kansas continues to decline we may want to rename the school "Lawrence University", like our city's founders had originally planned.

Shawnee County DA mulls whether to charge man who had illegal fireworks near Statehouse

The article states the items were illegal. Sounds pretty black and white, so why the question about whether to charge?

Facebook page concerns parents of Lawrence High students

Getting back to the subject of the FB page... it could be in violation of FB policy, but a user of FB could have just set up a GROUP page and accomplished the same thing.

There is currently no signs of bullying on the site. Why is everyone worked up about this? I don't see anything to be concerned about yet.

If parents want to protect their kids from the internet, good luck. You better not buy your child a computer or smartphone.

Heard on the Hill: KU Chick-Fil-A debate reaches Congress; local IIYM piano winner continues to excel; math prof takes on new administrative role

What if the president of Chick-fil-A donated money to the Ku Klux Klan and in an interview said he thought all African Americans should be sent back to Africa and the Jews should be sent to Israel? Do you still feel that it would be appropriate to grant this company the privilege to sell their product at an educational institution? It's free speech!

What if he said all the Jews should have to go to re-education sessions to convert them to christianity, and if they didn't convert they should be arrested? Free speech again? Yes.

Now take out the word "Jews" and place "homosexual" in the sentence and place "heterosexual" in place of "christianity". This is what the president of Chick-fil-A is saying with his donations to some groups.

No, freedom of speech does not mean you can't be attacked for your viewpoints. Freedom of Speech means the government cannot suppress your speech and keep you from talking. You can say what you want, but that doesn't guarantee there will not be consequences.
