Have you ever researched your family’s genealogy?

My son researched our family this past year and happily found out that my mother-in-law's relative on the Mayflower was an indentured servant to my relatives on the Mayflower.

Don't have to hear about her Mayflower connection anymore.

Did you vote on Election Day?

What about early voting? Which wasn't at my polling place, but at the election office.

Kansas House Speaker O'Neal retires as legislature ends

Why not retire? He can draw his KPERS and go back to his law firm tax free courtesy of Sam. Probably going to get some Koch bros. work sitting up some LLC's.

Kansas House panel to vote on Senate remap plan

Let's not pretend our representatives are professional.

From the Topeka Capital Journal:

"Terry Bruce, R-Hutchinson, said the House took the correct policy step by intervening in the Senate mapping endeavor. The map passed by the Senate won't pass constitutional review because it violated the goal of maintaining communities of interest in the 36th District in southwest Kansas, he said.

"By stretching the district from the Oklahoma line to Ellis County," Bruce said, "the population of a Hispanic, Spanish-speaking ethnicity is joined with a Volga German population whose native language, in certain areas at least, is slop-bucket German."

As a representative of the Slop Bucket German speakers of Kansas (What is that?) --I'm appalled.

Will this argument hold up in court?

Speaker O'Neal apologizes for forwarding email that calls Michelle Obama "Mrs. YoMama"

I don't know what I find more offensive about O'Neil--the fact that he hides behind Bible verses while attacking the Obamas (who haven't even a clue who he is) or that he can't pick a decent eyeglass frame.

How early do you begin your holiday shopping?

Never. Our family agreed last year to skip the gifts and just get together and fine dine. At this point there are no children--youngest is a well-employed (finally) age twenty-four. Add some grandchildren to the mix and we won't let them go w/o Christmas gifts.

Statehouse Live: Brownback says he is willing to consider options to closure of Lawrence SRS office

Is this going to be related to appointment of judges again?

Brownback will restore the Arts Commission if he is allowed more control of judicial appointments.

Brownback won't close KNI if he is allowed more control of judicial appointments.

Brownback will reopen the SRS offices if he is allowed more control fo judicial appointments.

Of course we know what will happen. As soon as Fuehrer Brownback receives more control over judicial appointments the Arts Commision, KNI and SRS offices will be the first to go.
