Color Run bursts through downtown Lawrence

"While not a charitable organization itself, Color Run does donate a portion of the event proceeds to local charities. This year money will be donated to Van Go Inc., an arts-based social service organization. The donation amount was not immediately known today. Jessica Nixon, Color Run public relations specialist, said the organization donated $600,000 nationally last year and plans to donate more than $1 million this year."

The donation amount comes to about $1 of a $40 registration fee, based on their website's participation rates. They really shouldn't advertise the charitable part of their LLC since it's practically non-existent.

Color Run

From the Color Run website:

"In 2012, The Color Run raised more than $600,000 for local and national charities. In 2013, we plan to donate at least $1 million!"

"Now the single largest event series in the nation, The Color Run is exploding since our debut event in January of 2012 and will grow from over 50 events and 600,000 participants in 2012, to over 100 events and over a million participants in 2013."

That's one dollar per participant. Assuming everyone is paying a $40 entrance fee, a whopping 2.5% is going to charity.

It's obnoxious that a for-profit company solicits volunteers and promotes charities largely to help them make money for themselves.

Do you sometimes use fuel with ethanol in your vehicle?

Beat me to it river. I think the federal government mandates up to 10% ethanol in gasoline. Not sure on diesel fuel.

Lawrence residents receive tickets for not clearing sidewalks

Which is why you're required to put down sand if unable to free your sidewalk of snow/ice. I also hear of a magical product called ice melt that could help. 50 lb bag for $8 at Wal Mart. This isn't a difficult concept to understand people.

Some Lawrence sidewalks remain snowbound despite $20 fines

Over the last few years, the energy used for all the belly aching from ljw posters on this issue is enough to shovel every sidewalk in the city for the next 20 years. Good gawd. If you don't want to take care of property, don't own any. Problem solved.
