KU has offered Turner Gill the head football coaching job. Would this be a good hire for the Jayhawks?

"James Starks is an NFL caliber running back. "

James Starks is playing in the Superbowl and Naaman Roosevelt plays for the Buffalo Bills. Again, Gill won MAC games with NFL caliber players.

Self comments on Texas staying in Big 12

Hey now that they made their own deal with ESPN and essentially ran off with that money for themselves, your comment seems empty. Their remaining int he Big XII is going to in no way double anyone's sports budget. Should have seen this one coming. The Big XII commissioner needs to go.

Kansas Athletics Inc., not KU, paying for funeral of Robinson's mother and cost of sending team to D.C.

What are you talking about? If private entities wanted to fund a funeral for a "regular student" there would be NO issue whatsoever. That's what is going on here, the only difference is that without the NCAA's approval, anyone who would donate to Thomas Robinson would be putting the program in jeopardy if KU did not get an OK from the NCAA. For a regular student, people, organizations, and companies could donate with no fear that some organization would turn around and penalize the university for doing so. The same would not have been the case for Robinson because he is an athlete. The NCAA essentially puts these guys in a worse position because they are athletes. While they should not receive special treatment, they should also not be put in a more difficult situation. I back the KUAC funding 100%.

Lew Perkins' tenure as Kansas athletic director comes to a sudden conclusion — months ahead of schedule

"The KU football team won the 2008 Orange Bowl and the men’s basketball team won the 2008 national title under Perkins’ watch."

Yet, he did not hire either coach who accomplished those goals. Who has Perkins hired as AD anyway? Hendrickson and Gill? We have yet to see how his "prize hire" will do with the football team. It hasn't started out well, but at least we need to give him some time to right the ship. I stick with my comments during Gill's courting. I've still seen nothing to be impressed by. I hope that I will ultimately be wrong.

Kansas to receive $179M in aid

Are you better off than you were 18 months ago?
Yes, thankfully I am.

How is that hope and change working for you?
Probably better than living under Maverick and his sidekick Hockey Mom. However, I guess we will never know, thankfully.

Bonus item:
Imagine how much better off we would all be if W and his puppetmaster had not decided to manufacture a case for war, now to the tune of $1.06 trillion. "That's trillion, with a "t," as in titanic and terrifying." Mission accomplished!

Suspect in KU Credit Union robbery charged with armed robbery

Why are so people worried about the publication of the name of someone who MIGHT be the perpetrator? What danger are you in because of their policy? It is too bad that other outlets do not have the same policy as the Journal-World. I support the LJW policy of not publishing the names of people that haven't even been before a judge. Once your name is in print (or published on the web) it is there forever. No amount of retracting undoes that. The guy is in custody, you aren't in any danger because you don't know his name the minute he was arrested. We all know the police never arrest the wrong person (this is not a knock on police, it is just a fact of life).

The Big XII and its members are now going to be held hostage to the whims of UT. Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. If this goes through, we will be re-visiting this again in 2 years when UT wants more money. Let's just end this now.

Jayhawks surprised by seemingly tough NCAA draw

What's the point of having a number 1 #1 seed again? Apparently it doesn't mean that you get a favorable schedule. Is the only benefit that KU gets to play in St. Louis? Someone on the committee must have gone to Duke. Most questionable of the 1 seeds gets the softest bracket.

House to debate bill that would impose state sales tax on residential utilities

"and the tax would be added to Kansas Lottery tickets"

Did I read this correctly? They are going to add sales tax to the "tax" on the poor, who play the lottery? Madness!

Free throws didn't cost Kansas the 2003 NCAA championship: A convincing argument

Scruggsy, no, you can't dispute the mathematical operations, but you can certainly dispute the rationale for the numbers on which the mathematical operations are applied.
