City delays action on $40 million bond issue for Rock Chalk Park

This project is being paid for with the tax revenue every Lawrence citizen is expected to pay, so it would be kind of absurd to ask Fritzel to pay back into the pot that he's pulling all of this money from. It would almost be like the servant who after 30 years of service has the audacity to ask his master to help with the dishes. Let's not disrupt the status quo, we al pay taxes so rich developers don't have to.

Letter: Stupid threat

Exactly, if it wasn't for free speech we might never know who these people are that we disagree with. I like the fact that people can tell us directly what they think and we're free to agree or disagree and act accordingly.

City to consider issuing industrial revenue bonds for Rock Chalk Park project

None of these tax breaks would have been necessary had this really been a gift to the city of Lawrence. But Fritzel is no philanthropist, he's just a very good promoter and salesman. He knows from experience that people like to think they're getting something free or at a bargain price. So you might see a sign advertising free all you can eat hotdogs for the entire family, but when you go to get your free hotdog you find that the fine print explains that they're free with the purchase of a new house or condo in Junction City. Well, it looks like we've all bought condos from Fritzel, although this time they're really more like a huge warehouse that we'll have to share with KU. But I'm sure Fritzel will live up to his end of the bargain, and at the grand opening and for one day only you can get your free hot dog, after all, Fritzel did say he was giving us a gift, right?

Opinion: U.S. should learn from history with Iran

America lost credibility in the region with the invasion of Iraq and America is not better off without Saddam Hussein. By invading Iraq we strengthen Iran and left political turmoil in the region that may come back to bite us.

Which KU basketball player are you looking forward to watching the most?

You're right, they made him "team video manager", so he wasn't a player, but certainly was part of the team.

Bicylist injured after colliding with vehicle on East 23rd Street

They should ride on the curb? You must have really good balance to be able to do that. Are you a funambulist? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahz0y8...

Bicylist injured after colliding with vehicle on East 23rd Street

There are bad drivers everywhere who speed, don't use signals, don't stop at stop signs, talk on the phone, text, etc. and of all those bad drivers the ones on bikes scare me the least. I hope the bike rider is ok, too, they're the ones who usually get hurt in this type of accident regardless of who the bad driver was.

Professor getting death threats over NRA tweet, colleagues support his free-speech rights

JayhawkFan, America has a very long history of banning questionable books and assassinating political leaders. Senator Joseph McCarthy condemned books for promoting Communism and those books were pulled from library shelves and burned. And what about Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, John F Kennedy, etc., weren't they assassinated for their beliefs?

Downtown hotel project may temporarily close portion of New Hampshire Street

I hope they'll be showing some movies from the 80's while the street is closed off.
