Name recognition: Jayhawks get big name — Charlie Weis

KU may be headed in a better direction but it was hard not to. The important thing is that the Big12 is getting very, very competitive and this is the best we can do? We will be facing TCU and WVa soon, folks. You really think this hire is going to make us relevant in the conference? We are falling behind in a conference where everyone else is rapidly getting better except for us.

How so? What exactly is impressive about this hire?

OMG, are you a yell leader? Former yell leader? Nothing like hope in the face of all improbability.

Sheahon Zenger’s pick: Take it or Leavitt

If true that also says something about the AD. Sometimes it is not what you say, but how you say it.

He may have nuts, but they are small ones. Why not Fulmer? How about Swtizer? How about Jimmy Johnson? Marty Shottenheimer or one of the other more successful KC Chiefs coach?

I am with you, man. Beginning of the end for Zenger. KU is not becomming the career killer for coaches yet, but it may be turning that way for ADs if Weiss does not prove to be a stable and successful hire.

Maybe hard work goes a long way, but some times there are elements that are counter-productive. If he does not work well with others, is not a defensive guru, is not committed to the long haul, we are digging a deeper hole.

You are kidding, right? Okay, How about Mike Leach. What was wrong with that?

Next, how about a Phil Fulmer who reportedly came to us, who wanted us. That is a 152-52 record in the SEC.

What about a Jim Leavitt? How about Nolan Cromwell? Glen Mason, Fedora, Malzahn, June Jones and the young Doer? That are all kinds of names out there that would take this job. Now tell me why I am wrong and I will argue with you, mister.

Okay, Okay, I admit that I see one good thing about the hire. People who have had absolutely no interest in KU Football are now paying attention and already have opinions, although they sound like the yell team in some blog sweat job trying to build KU credibility.

Nothing wrong with .500 overall. That is where we are as a program. When you get a name like Weiss and experience like this, aren't you saying you expect more? And if you are expecting more, why is this the man to take us there. Sorry, I do not see the evidence.

Fact 1. We are woeful on defense. Weiss, as stated by Ivan Maisal, has no defensive expertise and he had multiple DCs in his short time in South Bend.

Fact 2. He has had two consecutive one-year stints. How is this going to bring stability?

Fact 3. He is reported to have, note that I said this, "reported to have" relationship problems with his assistants and also report to have an ego. How is he going to build a team around this? In the NFL money is the glue that holds it all together. Sorry, you don't have that here and because that is absent Weiss is a fish out of water. Look at ND and Florida. His college experience is summed up in the word, "Underachiever,"

I acknowledge he could be good, maybe great in the NFL, but he is a terrible fit for KU. Mark my words. This is a disaster. If you think differently, tell me why. Give me counter points. What specifically makes you think he is a good fit and will be successful?????
