Downtown hotel project now slated to begin in June, following city's latest approval
I don't think dumpster diving is against the law, it may be against a city code. I'm certain that law enforcement, media or anyone else can go through trash once it's placed for collection, gosh it can even go to court. Any way who cares if some one reuses something? It keeps it out of the landfill.

City commissioners want to study whether Lawrence needs new plan to guide growth and development
Some people do not get out of town much. In Topeka, Menards, HD, And Lowes are bunched up together. It's the same in many other areas. It's called competition in a free market, capitalist society. Last time I looked we still live in one, which is why I usually spend large sums of my earned money in Topeka.

Letter: Courage lacking
Every gun I have purchased online or at a gun show has required a background check. I don't know of any one who has bought a anything online without one.

City planners recommending denial of proposed Menard's store; Planning Commission to debate project Monday
I'm starting to think the commissioners must be protecting Home Depot for some reson. First Lowes is denied then Menards.
I spend a lot of money in home improvement stores, unfortunately, most of it is out of town because Home Depot in Lawrence is small and doesn't have the selection or prices due to lack of commpition.
The vast majority of the 30k I've spent in the last year in home improvement stores has been in Topeka were Home Depot, Lowes and Menards compete with in a couple of blocks of each other.
It would be nice to spend my money locally, but it appears that I'll continue to support Topeka's tax base.

Weather prompts cancellations of Sunday, Monday events
Kansas Concelled Carry Class. 1045 W. 23. Lawrence is also cancelled. Although it was called in to 6 news. I guess the folks there don't consider it news worthy.

'Swept under the rug:' How a Lawrence man - an educator and a Boy Scout volunteer - was able to sexually abuse boys for decades
What makes me sick is that he has a pedophile recruitment tool in his front yard. A large movable chicken coop on wheels. The neighborhood kids are attracted to it like bugs to a bug zapper. I hope most of the parents in his neighborhood are aware of his past and abuse of kids. I have done my part to inform them. Before he was released from prison, there was another pedophile who had just been paroled living at the same address.
Just wondering if any one out there knows the legal ramifications of a concerned neighbors putting up a sing in their yards warning others of this sicko? I am aware that the city has some ordinance about signs.
There is an app for this also, Life360, is a free app for your smart phone that lets you see all offenders in your area.

Charge: Topeka man tried to smuggle cash from Afghanistan
Is this the same Teflon Don, that was Dishonorably Discharged from the Army for theft and other charges? I would bet my last $$ it was. He is a notable POS.

Town Talk: Bouncy houses coming to East 23rd Street; major affordable housing complex proposed near 23rd and O'Connell; library hopes to move to Borders spot by mid-December
Chad, you might want to check out http://www.midwestrescueairboats.com I believe this was the company that occupied the new bouncy house location. I had heard they went out of business because most of their equipment was auctioned off a couple of months ago by a bank.
