Where are your bottles going? Look inside the Ripple Glass recycling process

This article would make a great video article if the LJworld would do something like that for the website. Would love to see the process.

It’s a deal: Obama, Congress will avert default

Edit: 4,000,000,000,000

Sorry I lost track of zeros.

I just don't get why Congress has an obsession putting cuts over 10 years. How is 1 trillion a big number when it's only 100 billion of a 4,000,000,000+ yearly budget. That's a drop in the bucket. Does inflation make it moot after 10 years?

Do you think it's a good idea to increase the speed limit on some Kansas highways to 75 mph?

Totally agree. 'Grandma driving' and efficient driving are different. At 435/I35 efficient driving goes out the window in exchange for defensive driving... I-70 from Lawrence to Topeka with three lanes: Efficient driving.

No one forces you to do the speed limit. The highway minimums are 40. If you want to drive slower to save gas, do so. But stay in the right lane and be an attentive driver. Look at traffic coming up behind you and drive accordingly speeding up when necessary so not to be a danger. I drive 63 and get 36mpg. When I go 70 I drop to 32. I don't enjoy driving slow but the cost difference makes it up.

My 2 cents.

KU proposes tuition increases for 2011-12 school year

Even being out of school for 4 years now, the tuition difference is jaw dropping. Being an out of state student would be painful.

Kansas Democratic leadership calls for change in taxes to help fill state coffers

That is an awesome comparison. I've never found words to put it like that but it's very true.

Statehouse Live: House defeats bill to repeal temporary 1-cent state sales tax increase

Well first off 80 miles roundtrip is a foolish exaggeration.

Second, 'neighbor's salary' makes me think you're a public employee.

Third, it's my money.

Statehouse Live: House defeats bill to repeal temporary 1-cent state sales tax increase

Having moved from Lawrence to WyCo I'm now going across the state line to buy groceries or other large purchase items that makes a noticeable difference in the total. The Legends special tax rate makes even worse. Negate it by spending on the gas? Maybe but when gas is cheaper in Mo then I'm doing more things to make it worth the trip.

I could stand the increase in tax if it wasn't applied to groceries. 4.5% tax on groceries in Mo, vs %9.4 in Ks. With coupons and the 5% difference it makes 'cents'.
