Kobach considering filing charges against protesters who came to his home

Kobach's response doesn't speak very well of his respect for first amendment rights( the right to free speech and lawful protest). That he views it instead as a second amendment or guns right issue is extremely telling. Kansas officials( including KU administrators) are continually abusing the criminal injustice system to limit the rights and malign the dignity and equality of KS residents. That isn't how the democratic process is supposed to work.

Do Not Be Ashamed

You will be walking some night
in the comfortable dark of your yard
and suddenly a great light will shine
round about you, and behind you
will be a wall you never saw before.
It will be clear to you suddenly
that you were about to escape,
and that you are guilty: you misread
the complex instructions, you are not
a member, you lost your card
or never had one. And you will know
that they have been there all along,

I enjoy the refreshing honesty of this article. Kansas people are all about harassment and . treating others differently--especially when it boosts their own egos- for instance terrorizing complete strangers on the public streets in the supposed name of "helping." I won the pain lottery, and the public stoning at KU--- though officially redacted from the record to protect the local red-handed guilty power players-- was remarkably inhumane.

Local girls become beauty queens for a day

This seems old-fashioned, to say the least. Teaching girls about conforming to limiting, demeaning sexual stereotypes--the KS version of celebrating Women's History Month--boo!! In my experience only in less advanced, civilized, and progressive cultures do appearances equal reality. Once we're brainwashed into believing that we are only who we are perceived to be--often by less than politically aware and sensitive people--our horizons become severely diminished.

People always looked at me and saw a brainiac in female drag until I moved to Larryville, where I was unmercifully bullied and persecuted for a slight difference from the majority, and TOTALLY externally defined by it. Labels rule in the narrow-minded backwoods.

Lawhorn's Lawrence: Three decades of defending and judging those in Lawrence's justice system

Nothing is more anathema to liberal education than an authoritarian mindset. Southern justice and college towns don't go well together. When the KU HR and General Counsel are obviously so eager to press false charges before even according workers adequate internal due process, that doesn't say much for either the quality of education at KU or the criminal injustice system in Douglas County. Dishonesty and crooked justice leave a long-term bad taste.

Lawsuit alleging age discrimination at KU dismissed

Age is not supposed to be considered in the hiring process. We have the right not to disclose our ages. I never give my age, and I doubt it's ever been a big factor in OBTAINING employment. Places like KU may make it an issue after the fact. Age is only a number, and it's also private information often protected by law. Lawrence has a very "young" culture, and the virtues of maturity and wisdom often remain uncelebrated if not completely rejected. Age diversity is not valued highly enough.

KU claimed I was fired for budgetary reasons too, but when they need to downsize they cruelly choose out workers to be let go for discriminatory reasons. No matter that on paper ( and likely in reality)my qualifications were much better. People in Lawrence can't see beyond prejudice--too much ignorant judgment based on superficial factors, all that sentimentalizing of perceived weakness and projected helplessness. I rarely met anyone at all there who treated me like a human being, only street harassers 24/7. "Frig a bigot" to this day remains my favorite exclamation of frustration.

Prayer list targets "dark spiritual areas" of Kansas, including Lawrence

Prayer for the street harassers ! They know no boundaries but love stupidly terrorizing random pedestrians in Lawrence and elsewhere in KS. Please teach them that "First do no harm" is an important ethical concept. You are not entitled to violate strangers' boundaries, people. You are not God's gift! Keep your ignorance to yourselves! God spare us from bigotry, whether born in Lawrence or elsewhere. Giving is difficult. To assume you have anything to offer others (whose values and culture may legitimately differ from yours) besides incompetence implies an overly fat ego. It's unlikely you have anything a stranger wants.

Everyone deserves to feel safe on the streets and to move between points A and B unmolested. People like to choose their own ( smart) friends , and it's a right. Don't force mindless social scripts on others. Devils and street harassers are closely related. Bring on the exorcism.
