McLouth student Justin Johnston shot, killed on school trip to Costa Rica; classmates returning to Kansas
My 19 y.o. daughter (she attends Johnson County CC) was just in Costa Rica for two semesters- 8 months straight and had an amazing time. She lived with a host family and was well cared for. She also visited Panama, Guatamala and Nicaragua while she was there. Of course this was always a small fear in the back of my mind, but she is responsible, smart and well, I raise my children to treat life as an adventure.
This would have been my worst nightmare. I can only imagine what the family is going through. My deepest condolances.
To be honest, something like this could happen anywhere... but, gosh, I would have died right along with my daughter had this happened to her while she was abroad.
For the record though, my daughter would go back to Central America in a heart beat. She's also been to Cameroon, Africa, Kingston, Jamaica and a border town in Mexico. She's brave. I think I might be braver for letting her ... don't even know how to wrap my mind around this tragedy, being so close to home.
