Lawrence school district leaders say students' proposal to cut cafeteria waste would be too costly

Giving our fellow tax-paying citizens a living wage for full time work cooking and serving sustainable healthy lunches to young people in stead of sending disposables to the landfill (and then coming back to taxpayers for more landfills) is a win-win (multiplier effect anyone?). Just because we have "always" (20+ years) done something one way, does not mean we can't find a better way.

Here @ Kansas apartment project proposes new, above-ground parking garage for Oread neighborhood

Is that the largest single taxpaying parcel before or after the rebate? How much did Berkley flats pay in taxes? How much does the small apartment complex where the additional parking garage is to go paying? What is the net gain (or loss) to city, county and school district finances from this deal? Transparency and not the continual shell game would be a refreshing change for the new year.

Editorial: Bicycle parking

In over 25 years of regular strolling downtown I have never had any problem with a bicycle chained to a meter impeding my mobility. Is this really a problem? (or a solution looking for one)?

Editorial: Tax mistake?

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Check the voting record of your representative whether D or R or I. It is incumbent upon each of us to do our homework as citizens. If we as a people "got fooled again" it is because we did not do this. Now before anyone jumps up and says they did, I understand your point, but did you try having respectful discussions with your neighbors or on social media about the November elections or did you just preach to the choir? We are the government and we are all in it together. Time to stop finger pointing and start rolling up our sleeves.

Judge blocks Kansas' ban on 2nd-trimester abortion procedure

No health issue is any of our business. Isn't that what Hippa was supposed to protect?

By your logic we can select any health procedure we disagree with in our personal morality, spirituality or religion and deem it "personal" and then demand that all public funding for it be ended. Ok, my number one is the health and environmental degradation caused by the subsidizing of fossil fuels, that should be "private". Number two would be any health issue below the waist for males--especially Testosterone supplementation and boner pills--it must be god's will that you age normally and your sex drive and performance decrease, otherwise why would that happen?
