City manager's recommended budget calls for holding city tax rate flat, increases in utility rates

What is a "public safety mobile command vehicle"? A glorified RV? For a million bucks? You can get anywhere in Lawrence in 20 minutes--why do we need an office on wheels? The tabled sidewalk repairs would contribute more to public safety. (oh and bike lanes that are actually safe on 9th st).

Long-awaited parking solution for HERE apartments emerges; plan involves demolishing area houses

I'm wondering what the net gain/loss financially to the city, county, school district is? The taxes paid by old Berkley flats and these two or three (rental?) homes vs the taxes paid minus incentives by HERE on the properties. Storm water runoff costs/fees and cost to improve infrastructure will be borne by whom?

Lawrence school district leaders say students' proposal to cut cafeteria waste would be too costly

Giving our fellow tax-paying citizens a living wage for full time work cooking and serving sustainable healthy lunches to young people in stead of sending disposables to the landfill (and then coming back to taxpayers for more landfills) is a win-win (multiplier effect anyone?). Just because we have "always" (20+ years) done something one way, does not mean we can't find a better way.

Here @ Kansas apartment project proposes new, above-ground parking garage for Oread neighborhood

Is that the largest single taxpaying parcel before or after the rebate? How much did Berkley flats pay in taxes? How much does the small apartment complex where the additional parking garage is to go paying? What is the net gain (or loss) to city, county and school district finances from this deal? Transparency and not the continual shell game would be a refreshing change for the new year.
