One person killed, two injured in North Lawrence motel shooting

I would suggest you study the states that have open carry and then try to share the same foolish suggestion that you have just shared.

One person killed, two injured in North Lawrence motel shooting

The first murder recorded in the history of mankind was a tool called a "stone".

Ex-Lawrence mayor asks court for exception: probation instead of prison for embezzling from food bank

For many years there was a team of volunteers who went about the city collecting food from food stores to distribute food needs to the Community Shelter for the homeless. Mr. Farmer came along with his idea of Just Food then went to these same grocers and filled their minds with questions and doubts similar to causing the managements to question if whether we were actually taking this food to the Shelter. Point: he did not truly care about the hungry unless is was all about him and his plans. He needs to be assisted by professionals to heal a deeper problem within.

Open your ears, Douglas County's popular sweet corn stand to close after 35 years in business

I totally get that it is difficult to find young abled bodies to work any type of physical labor anymore (time is a changing) as I reach back into past years where it was the popular job for high school students to work for the Nunemakers during the Corn Season. I trust that their corn is non-GMO and I question if it is going to be more and more difficult to find organic or true (non-lab created corn) for the dinner table or snack. I love the relationship of these small farm business, not to mention their quality produce and fully support their heart and purpose. I just don't get it why what once was a status position to be able to get to work for this family is no longer such. So sorry to hear of this culture and time moving on, such a huge loss.

A look at when and where you can shoot fireworks in the Lawrence area

We live near 28th and Lawrence Avenue and my dogs, one ten years old, have been telling the story that many in our neighborhood are not abiding by this law. I thought one was going into cardiac arrest last night. It is bad enough to be less than a 1/2 mile from 3 or 4 Firework Retailers who make enough noise to satisfy the average spectator. Is there a way that citizens can get involved in securing this law within their designated neighborhoods and filing reports that will secure this law for safety and for the mindset of our 4 legged friends?

Kansas advocates seek new protections for gays and lesbians in light of bill

I am interested in how many Muslim Clerics are on this council? I believe the Gay Rights have met their match here and will find the Christians are most apt to offer grace.

Letter: Campus litter

My dogs, Grandma, are on electric leashes and electric leashes are under our city and county law. We are friendly with the campus police who also know that we are on leash. Perhaps you should approach and confront all that you think concerns you.

Feds try to seize property tied to drug case

Where have I been over the past 60 years? Since when does the government have the right to loot the property and belongings to someone who has been arrested on charges of any kind?

Lawrence city leaders to ask Kansas legislators for increased speeding fines along K-10, new sales tax for Internet shoppers, SLT to be completed

To tax internet Buyers on top of increasing Shipping costs? That should be the end to the end of Internet Sales ... then someone needs to add tax to mail purchases from catalogue businesses (what is the difference?). My advice is to simply leave the People be and be thankful that they are "spending money" in your State. Learn to correctly use/spend what local and state income taxes that you receive already because when you increase then the Empoyers, increase and then increase keeps increasing by Renters, Business Owners, etc. as the bucks keep getting increased and kicked down the road to those who become poorer through your increases. Kansas and Lawrence can stop the nonsense and spend only what is in their pockets already.
