Republican freshman lawmakers in Kansas House undergo re-election briefing

"It's not about campaigning. It's about informing them what you've been doing," Hansen said. "Being fiscal conservatives," he encouraged them to use black and white material instead glossy color ones.

He further went on to say, "...You know to whom you are appealing. Keep it simple. Prepare all of your materials with a fat pencil and a Big Chief tablet....the kind with the wide lines."

Brownback concludes tour urging support of stable funding for higher education

At first I was ready to agree with you. But, then I decided that philandering doesn't make one an idiot. Bad policies do. I still may agree with you, but will need more data. It is a shame that in so many cases, the best we can elect is pure mediocrity.

Rules tighten on TANF recipients

That's absolutely true! And, I wonder how many welfare mommas knocked off the rolls it would take to balance that little welfare scam? Let's see, dividing the Brownback family welfare grants by the average $282 TANF welfare grant we would accomplish the same as removing over 2000 TANF mommas just by removing the few members of his family. Fair is fair.

Now, we can look at the great Congressman Tim Huelskamps brother's welfare (farm subsidy) grants which have totaled over $1.6 million and by eliminating HIS welfare, we'd accomplish the same as knocking off another 5,600 mommas. Right there with just two families we'd accomplish the same as closing 7,600 TANF cases.

The result is the equivalent of shutting down 1/3 of all the TANF cash expenditures in the state of Kansas. If you REALLY want to save money by ending welfare in Kansas, let's go after the REAL welfare abusers. Otherwise, just eat more beans, wait about two hours and come up with more great legislation.

Turnpike leader Johnston is leaving

Had Mr. Johnston been a bulletin clerk at the Topeka Bible Church he could have retained his position. Instead, he was an experienced and capable leader, thus he is gone.

Lawrence legislators say they hope Kansans will turn the tide on current policies

Yeoman2....No! They are not "generally ignorant and illiterate". They certainly do have a different and sometimes hypocritical attitude about the need for government programs. It's remarkable how many times a Kansas elected official ie: Brownback, Huelscamp, Carlson, etc. want to cut funding or services of government, but they & their families turn up on lists showing them to be beneficiaries of government largess in the form of liberal crop subsidies. I think what they have is very questionable integrity. No doubt they represent many of their supporters.

Lawrence legislators say they hope Kansans will turn the tide on current policies

That's what should be happening anyway. If one really wants an input in Kansas politics, we all should be registered as R for no other reason than to put the best R candidate on the ballot. Then, in the general election, we can vote for whomever we want. Often, there are 4-5 primary R candidates and one primary D. So, the D candidate is a shoe-in for being on the general ballot. However, the R primary field is so split, that desirable and capable R candidates never make it to the general election. With too many one party voters in the state already, we end up with the R candidate wearing the biggest tin foil propeller hat winning it all. That's how we end up with the Huelscamps, Rubins, Brownbacks, Morons and why the Owens lose and the Parkinsons switch parties.

Senate advances bill giving private health clubs property tax break

And, non-profits are exempt why? Churches are exempt why? They use our streets, sewers, fire protection, police protection, etc. just like everyone else. Instead of exempting anyone which shifts the burden to everyones homes, why not REALLY level the playing field and make anyone using these services pay fairly. This legislature never ceases to come up with moronic ideas. It is becoming a daily routine.
