City commissioner wants state to revoke nightclub's liquor license
No, I believe that they are a real part of our community. Where do I say acceptance is the issue?

City commissioner wants state to revoke nightclub's liquor license
The swift and immediate revocation would seem the easiest route but it hardly addresses the issue. What is the issue? Gang bangers, gats, drugs, hos, reps, and all other imaginary traits that the other-than-functional hold dear to their hearts. Revoking the license, shutting their joint down, boarding up their clubhouse is only a quick and duty-free way to pretend that the problem belongs to someone else. Shutting the place down is only the first step toward alleviating the problem.
Whenever long-term nuisances are treated with short term measures, it creates a vacuum effect. The problem doesn't go away, free roaming elements will quickly find another location to fill a void, be it a public or private spot, but it will quickly re-form and all the short term fixes will be for not. For instance, how well did shutting Last Call work out?
What makes a grown man want to wear his jeans hanging just above the knees? What makes the young ladies want to dress with so little to reveal? Why do some people believe that respect starts from the outside of the self? What sets into their minds that respect for self and others can be imposed with a gun? These are the issues that must be addressed in order to make the problem go away. The true answer is not quick and easy, it will not go away with short sighted and duty-free measures like shutting down a business.
I agree, the club has become a nuisance and shutting it would be effortless and certainly make city leaders appear proactive, but it is not nearly enough if we want to eliminate the underlying problem. It will take much effort from, and love of, our community to make these problems go away. And yes, the gang bangers are a part of our community, they are not an "other" to be tossed out like trash. They are us. Let's find a real fix.

Lawrence cyclist seriously injured in collision with vehicle
Not sure how relevant these are but here it is.
8-1533. Same; right-of-way at crosswalks; interference with vehicular traffic; duties of drivers.
(a) When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger.
(b) No pedestrian shall **suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.**
And,
8-1534. Same; crossing roadway at location other than crosswalk.
(a) Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection **shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway.**

I do agree that riding on the sidewalk in that area is infinitely mo' better, remember that you forfeit your rights as a pedestrian if you use wheels on the sidewalk. Walk across streets and driveways, foot power enables your pedestrian rights. Blow through like you have the right of way and this bloke found that his rights were suspended for that 144 Inches of driveway.
Arriba!

'Celebrate Freedom Week' approved by House
"The religious references in the writings of the founding fathers shall not be censored when presented as part of such instruction."
+++++
Oh boy. I see Kansas is going to re-write the founding documents and force teachers to insert Jesus Christ instead of the God of Reason. Instead of "endowed by their creator" it will be taught as "Endowed by christ." Lessee, if a religious terror group were to recruit suicide bombers I would assume that targeting children would be essential to building an army. I see where this is going. Is Blowsalot modeling his Kansas fundamentalism after al qaeda? Show me evidence that shows where he doesn't, then add "yet".
How did we get to this nightmare?

Conservatives changing state government
Can't wait until they attack educational curriculum like the super-White majority of AZ.
Will our children be allowed to learn of the civil rights fight other than how the good Christian white people were enlightened by God and now blacks can vote?
Any mention of an on-going genocide of the brown savages, only how they saw the white way was so much better than their own way of life and decided to join?
Thanks LJWorld for showing me the faces of the emerging super-white of KS. It reminds me of the Driving of the Golden Spike photo where all are white, healthy and proud when in reality the workforce was 90% Chinese who wren't allowed into the photo op and were forced to walk home because they weren;t allowed to ride the railroad they built.
I apologize for what appears to be an anti-white people rant but hey, that's a mighty pale looking bunch and I could not help but notice.
And so on...
