The coffee ice cubes for iced coffee are a great idea! I really like to order my coffee iced here in the summer. I stopped in today (way colder weather) to try it hot--not so good. There was an odd almost fishy smell coming from the brew--I even poured it into a different cup in case it was the plastic lid. No, it was the coffee. The taste was okay, but the smell is really off-putting and kind of disappointing. Dirty carafe? Don't know, but probably not going back until the weather heats up again.

Not a scone person, but I tried a blueberry muffin (the only muffin they had). Nothing exceptional, but not nasty or anything. It was almost like Jiffy muffin mix.

Journal-World websites to require commenters to identify themselves

No thanks. I already have a Facebook (that I'm seriously considering deleting), but it has very little identifying information, just my name. It's an extremely unique name, and if a past stalker were to Google it, ta-da, he now knows I live in Lawrence (or has a reason to assume so).

Also, I wonder what'$ involved with integrating the Facebook application into thi$ $ite?

Peace. Oftentimes, the comments were more informative than the articles, even if some of you are nutterbutters. ;)

Neighbor questions church's use of school

I would have been uncomfortable with this if they weren't paying rent, but since they're covering expenses, and it's not during school hours (obviously), I don't have a problem with it.

I went to school in Olathe and they do a similar thing. I didn't like it as a student, but now I know that these organizations are compensating the district for costs.

A handcrafted clean: Area businesses create, sell natural homemade soaps

Can't wait to finally finish up my gifted stash of Avon and department store soaps and try out a local brand.

Taking a Neanderthal out to coffee

On a lighter note, I guess the Geico Neanderthal commercials weren't so far off after all.

Lawrence city commissioners narrowly approve ban on porch couches

They even had one at Sixth and Michigan last week. It's getting a little out of hand.

Ramen bar set to open in downtown Lawrence

Better than that, Kailua Pork. My husband and I visited the big island last year, and he's been dying for Kailua Pork ever since. And if they brought some Longboard beer over, too, I certainly wouldn't object to Wailua Wheat.

City to install blue traffic lights for catching drivers running red lights

As a car owner who indulges in the occasional walk, I've gotten in the habit of checking for people running the red light when my walk signal comes on. I've nearly gotten hit enough times in my car that it's a concern.

I do agree that more people around here need to remember their cars come with this handy-dandy signaling device (standard!) that requires no telepathy from other drivers to determine where they're going, but I think the problem with red lights is more dangerous and therefore more pressing.

Proposed budget would reduce free parking downtown, limit funding for retiree marketing

Eh, just lie. It borks the data whoever is collecting and gets you to the content. Some around here have suggested a paywall like other small-town newspapers (and bigger ones) have. What would you rather have?
