Republican presidential candidates coming to Kansas Friday

Too bad Kansas caucuses are closed. I'm a registered independent, but I'd love to back Ron Paul in the Republican race.

Six named new attorney general

Am I the only one who thought (was hoping) we were getting the hot blonde from Battlestar Galactica?

Kansas thrives on road

Worst opening sentence I've read in a long time:

"Perhaps more embarrassing than anything Kansas University football represented in the last five years was complete ineptitude, time and time again, when playing on the road."

Could have been written as:

"Time and time again in the last five years, Kansas University football represented complete ineptitude when playing on the road."

Call me when you want to hire a good editor. :)

KDHE rejects coal plants in Western Kansas

I'm pleased to see the KDHE make a decision that will benefit the lives of Kansans. Eleven million tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants is a poor trade for 15 percent of the plants' output. Why should we gunk up Kansas air so that Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas can get more power?

Maybe if our state could be environmentally progressive, people would forget that Kansas education is devolving.

LIVE BLOG: City Commission decides budget, Wal-Mart

Why do we need another Sprawl-Mart? Is the one on Iowa not enough? Is it getting too much competition from the Super Target? Enough with the mega-stores! Lawrence is not that kind of town. Support local merchants by saying no to another Wal-Mart.

It came from Kansas

Loved this quiz! I am glad to say that it really challenged me and offered a few surprises. Good work, Jon!

Storms can't dampen festive 4th

Regarding the funnel cloud spotted at K-10 and Wakarusa, why didn't we hear the sirens? We live in Pinnacle Woods just west of Wakarusa on Clinton Parkway. My wife and I were in our apartment, by a window. We heard the wind, but not any sirens. Are they defective? Are they placed poorly? I'd like to know if they are working before the next such incident.

Traffic problems arise at Wakarusa fest

We do not fear the hippies, it's the six hour wait to get back home from two blocks away after leaving the house. The Eagles had it wrong. "You can check out any time you like, but getting back home's a bitch..."

We made a dash to the store in between traffic jams and now we're stocked up for the next three days. Nothing but DVDs, video games, and Starbucks mocha frappaccinos (while we sit on our porch and watch hippies play frisbee in our yard).

And, oh yes, "I like the cookie."
