How much do you think the city should fine people who don’t clear their sidewalks?

I guess my question is, who's sidewalk is it anyway? If you want to remove the sidewalk and plant grass, the city will claim it's their sidewalk. So why should the homeowner have to clean the sidewalk if it belongs to the city? Can someone answer this question?

FINAL: Northern Iowa shocks Kansas, 69-67

It was a tough loss, but the Jayhawks have given us so much to be proud of this year. The fact that they are the top Academic Team of the NCAA is something to be very proud of. Maybe we just don't want to play in Oklahoma anymore. Go Jayhawks!!!

Lawrence losing shoppers

Shopping in downtown Lawrence is a joke. If you park, pay the meter, shop in a store or two, you get a ticket. So the only reason to go downtown is to run into the store and grab what you went after and run! There is no such thing as a leisurely shopping trip in downtown Lawrence. And, who wants to shop downtown in the Winter? And, you don't want to be in downtown Lawrence after dark any more than you want to be in downtown KCK, Topeka or Kansas City, MO. Now, you drive 30-minutes to The Legends; Oak Park Mall; or Westridge Mall in Topeka and you can shop and leave all your money in another town. But, during the day only. Lawrence.....you've ALWAYS been this way.....why cry now???? You've driven us to other places to shop.

Health Care Access raises $450,000 needed to relocate

This is wonderful news for Nikki King, Sally Zogry, the board and staff of Health Care Access, but even better news for the uninsured of Douglas County. Hopefully, everyone will support them as they continue providing excellent services to our community.

Should the 6-year-old balloon boy in Colorado be punished?

I agree that the parents should be reprimanded. The little guy deserves punishment, but the parents are not setting a decent example for him or his brothers. But more importantly, I don't know why this is all over the news. This is just what the parents are looking for is more attention.

Churches cleared for shelter use

This idea of churches providing shelter, whether for families or not, is a very disturbing idea. Lawrence has organizations who have been willing, or are currently willing, to expand their facilities and programs to serve the homeless population. They know how to deal with the situations that arise, yet we gave the Salvation Army fits several years ago when they wanted to expand a very good program. No, they don't allow drunks in, but why should they? Will all of these churches allow them? Now you've got the Lawrence Community Shelter getting ready to expand somewhere, and do you think just ANY neighborhood is going to allow them in their backyard? I can assure you that won't happen! Yet, our city commissioners have approved homeless shelters ALL over town. This spells nothing but trouble!!! It's a coming!

Would you quit smoking if your employer paid you a stipend to do it?

I'll never believe that people continue to smoke with all the health issues related to it. No employer should pay someone a stipend if they quit smoking, that's just ridiculous!! I don't want to smell their smoke in a facility, outside a facility or on their clothes. Do these people not understand how badly they smell??? The biggest incentive for a smoker to quit should be their health and that of their family.....end of discussion!!!

Noodles & Company still eyeing downtown

Informed: For Lawrence Noodles and Company is a great restaurant. If you've lived here very long you know we can't keep restaurants for any length of time. This restaurant is reasonably priced for the students, but downtown is not the right location.

When do you think the SLT will be finished?

Likely the same days as when cows fly!!!! This issue is a complete embarrassment to our community. There is no excuse for this trafficway still being an issue, but in Lawrence, we never seem to be able to make good decisions. We have no building codes; can't seem to get 23rd street lights synchronized......so who would think we could make a decision to move this trafficway forward??
