I would hate to tell some 20 year old that just came back from Iraq that they couldn't have a beer.

Long-term plan suggests toll lanes on K-10 corridor
We are talking 2030-2040... I don't plan on needing any transportation system then. A LOT can happen between now and then. Who knows what new technology will be developed. I am with the person who said they will be teleporting.

As planners debate Menards project, new study finds retail vacancy rate at 7.2 percent citywide
I DO know something about tools, and I'll pass on Menards. Was in the one in Topeka. They can have it. I know Home Depot isn't the greatest, but I hate to see them go out for a Menards. There are places in Lawrence to get quality tools besides Home Depot. We have hardware stores, Automotive supply stores, and the internet. Most of the builders I know do not buy from any of those places, but have specialty suppliers. I am all for bringing more business to Lawrence, but not at the expense of one that is already here and established. Oh well, whatever.

Families, Ottawa community grapple to understand quadruple homicide
I can think of nothing more painful than the loss of a child or grandchild. My sympathy to all of you. Prayers too.

Authorities believe Lana-Leigh Bailey's body was moved to Osage County after killings in Ottawa
I kind of tend to agree with all of you so far. If he had used something besides a .22 or .25, he probably would have killed that guy in 05. Not saying he should have, but the legal system should have realized he had no qualms about killing a person. But to kill a baby is just off the charts. Why couldn't this ba#%&rd have just left the baby? She would have been found by the people who found the mom. The needle is too good for this piece of human detritus. I don't understand that kind of depravity. I know many of you don't believe, but God will deal with this "thing". That is, after gen. pop. have their way with him. My thoughts & prayers to the families & friends hurt by this animal.

U.S. Attorney General Holder tells Brownback new gun law is unconstitutional
No, anyone can legaly build a gun for their own use. I would advise staying within ATF guidelines, but it can be done. The only part of a gun that is considered a gun is the receiver. It would not take a machine shop with CNC mills too long to start making AR 15 lower receivers. AK receivers are even easier as they are stamped. Everything else could be imported as only the receiver is the gun. To do this to sell may take a license. It did before this law was past. Give me a milling machine and a lathe, and I am pretty sure I could make an AR lower. Probably take me a few times to get it right. Just saying.

Truancy policies can catch parents by surprise
You don't know me or anything about me, yet you attack me. Why? I gave my heart and soul to that job for 31 years. Never once had anything but excellent evaluations. In fact I keep in contact with many former students.

Truancy policies can catch parents by surprise
How come I had a bunch of students with 20 or more absences? No one seemed to care. With some of them, I kind of liked it when they were gone!
