Anthropology Department opposes leave for Guth

I really don't like some guy like him asking God to damn me, or wish my children be killed. I lost a child & grandchild already. Yes, we are entitled to free speech, but we need to be prepared for the consequences this speech may bring.

Proposed budget would reduce free parking downtown, limit funding for retiree marketing

Oh, my mistake, I didn't see the part about high end retirees. I am a middle end retiree. I guess they don't want me here anyhow. They sure don't mind taking my property tax, sales tax, etc.

I am a retiree living in Lawrence . When I came here 31 years ago, I liked living and working here. I am from the country, and moved back to the country for years. Now back in town due to circumstances beyond my control. Lawrence isn't what it was 31 years ago. Every place changes, but WOW, it has really changed. My problem is, I am not sure where I would move if I did. As to downtown parking, another way to kill off downtown and bring in more big box stores. About all I go down town for anymore is to get my hair cut, and buy shoes.

Day 4: From the Emerald Triangle to the Sunflower State

I have to say, I do NOT use illegal drugs. I don't drink either. I have always been against all types of illegal drugs, still am. But, like many others said, pot is here to stay. If it were legal, I would not use it, but that is my choice. If it were legalized and regulated, maybe it would be harder for young people to get. Like the guy above said, his child could get pot easier than alcohol. I have seen alcohol wreck families, and smoking kill people, yet they are legal. While I am not excited about legalizing it, I am thinking, it isn't going away, so regulate it and go after the really bad drugs like meth, etc.

On Memorial Day, young veteran wants fellow citizens to think about cost of war

To all Vets, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I appreciate what you did, and you are all held in high esteem by me. To all Vietnam Vets, THANKS, I know many of you were treated poorly when you came home. That was a huge mistake on America's part. Not all of us disrespected you. I looked up to you & tried to learn from you as I was about a year or two too young, or I probably would have been there too. Again, Thank You.

Club Magic manager says he's trying to turn around a new business at an old, and troubled, location

I agree with some of you, give him a 2nd chance. If that doesn't work, take a track hoe and several dump trucks to the place.

59 minors, several local businesses, cited for alcohol violations in state regulator's patrols in May

I would hate to tell some 20 year old that just came back from Iraq that they couldn't have a beer.

Long-term plan suggests toll lanes on K-10 corridor

We are talking 2030-2040... I don't plan on needing any transportation system then. A LOT can happen between now and then. Who knows what new technology will be developed. I am with the person who said they will be teleporting.

As planners debate Menards project, new study finds retail vacancy rate at 7.2 percent citywide

I DO know something about tools, and I'll pass on Menards. Was in the one in Topeka. They can have it. I know Home Depot isn't the greatest, but I hate to see them go out for a Menards. There are places in Lawrence to get quality tools besides Home Depot. We have hardware stores, Automotive supply stores, and the internet. Most of the builders I know do not buy from any of those places, but have specialty suppliers. I am all for bringing more business to Lawrence, but not at the expense of one that is already here and established. Oh well, whatever.
