From the Congressional Budget Office
“Over the coming decade, a growing number of taxpayers will become liable for the AMT. In 2010, if nothing is changed, one in five taxpayers will have AMT liability and nearly every married taxpayer with income between $100,000 and $500,000 will owe the alternative tax. Rather than affecting only high-income taxpayers who would otherwise pay no tax, the AMT has extended its reach to many upper-middle-income households. As an increasing number of taxpayers incur the AMT, pressures to reduce or eliminate the tax are likely to grow.”
From CNN.com
washington (ap) — President Bush demanded Saturday that Congress send him legislation that keeps middle-class Americans from being hit at tax time next year by the dreaded alternative minimum tax. That's not likely to happen anytime soon. Congress has adjourned for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The legislation is muddled in the House and Senate. And Bush has threatened to veto any bill that raises taxes as a way of fixing the tax, known in shorthand as AMT.

"Why is it, do you think, that addicts rob, steal and murder?" - duplenty
Are you serious or just high?
Addicts steal and rob to feed their addiction. Most do not have jobs, and if they do, not very good ones.
"I wonder if legal, easily attainable drugs would impact that at all?"- duplenty again
Sure it would....we would have far more addicts than we do now trying to obtain the resources to feed their habit.
Please put the crack pipe down now.
