Winter storm forces cancellation of classes, events

Maybe Lawrence schools don't prepare enough with their calendar with only one snow day built in? I would rather cancel and keep kids safe since the wrst is to happen while kids would be at school. Surrounding counties and even Topeka 501 have already cancelled.

Two Lawrence men arrested after altercation at Sixth and Kasold shopping center

No need to hate on the construction workers.... with this dry weather we have had, no matter how careful you are lines will break. The business owners need to be respectful, everyone has a job to do. Those guys don't want to be there longer now fixing a pipe in addition to what they were there to do in the first place. The heat and dry is bad enough, lets not turn on each other too.

Sound Off: Is it legal to have a portable basketball stand or a pile of wood on a public sidewalk?

I think if the city requires the home owner to maintain at the home owners expense then they (the city) should have no say.

Police calls to bars draw official scrutiny

Call the police and they do their job, but if the DA doesn't stick to the charges and punish accordingly then what was the point in calling the police in the first place. I'd like to see what the results of the arrests and citations were. What actually happened and who got let off with a warning?
