What a great recruiting tool.

Think what tthe money paid to Lew, Mangino, and Gill would have bought.

In my opinion this has alreaddy been accomplished by the prices received by the Condos that were part of the Oread Hotel. They bought existing buildings and demo'd them.
As a former Hobbs Taylor owner those pricesabove were obtained due to its location.
I agree with oneeyed in that the main problem was lack of nearby amenities. The project itself has unmatched amenities, not found elsewhere but until they are all sold and the owners can contribute to HO association dues will be high.

The only winners will be the lawyers.

If this project had been downtown or next to the University it would have been a success and missed the real estate recession.

One eye;

get agrip. With today's 24/7 news channel people expect too much. Let the process play out as I am sure even the parties involved are not aware of all the twists and turns and the end results. This will be a very complex situation and may take months or years to resolve.

And why are you so interested in the minute details?

This Walmart at Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive opened in April 2009. Neighboring retailers say the

Does not generate traffic? Tell that to my tenants. I develope Wal-Mart shadow centers thru out the Midwest. These retai centers are situated in Wal-Mart's parking lots and Wal-Mart's customers drive by my clients front door. These tenants survive with the exposure and traffic. These are what I call "value tenants", no GAPS or Saks.

While the retail sector has suffured a complete melt down my centers occupancy rates are in the high 90%.Even though I have had the most turn over I have ever had retailers answer my phone call when I have a vacancy.

While some surrounding retailers may not have seen increased sales they may not have suffered as much if the Wal-Mart had not opened. Drive around and see the many vacancies in non anchored (grocery stores). The commercial and jobmarket, except for t government employees, is in terrible shape.

The main complaint I hear, even from people who opposed the store, is that it is not big enough and does not have the selection of the south Wal-Mart.

Lawrence City Commission to consider construction bid to renovate old Carnegie Library

What happens to normal business people or others when they get elected to office that all fiscal restraints go out the window.
I hoped that the present commish's understood the poor economic environment and were better stewards of our money.
The building will still be there when the economy improves.
Bailing out the Oread building owners millions for 8 jobs. buying top of the market land for the school or future recreational needs, 2 high school football stadiums, etc. while declaring budget deficits and basic services cuts. Who would have guessed?
