School board may subtract English as a Second Language program from closing equation

Woodlawn won't close because of our location and the fact that our enrollment is steady and not declining. Would you want your 6 year old walking across the bridge everyday to get to another school? I don't think so, and I don't think that we are being protected because of one child who attends our school.

In Lawrence, anti-bullying efforts depend on the school

@tongie1, My daughter has been being bullied for the last 3 years, it is not a part of growing up, when you are afraid to ride the bus, or even go to school. Bullying is a huge issue in this district and many others around here. While I have seen the school that she attends step up, I will say as a whole the district sucks at helping those who are being bullied. It took me calling the police on the kids for them to get the hint, and they started behaving better, but now that it's been a couple of months they are starting to do the same things again. I went to school in Tongie and bullying was not a part of my growing up either, you must live in a different world if you think it's okay for kids to make threats and call your 13 year old daughter a whore. That's not normal if you ask me.

Is it considered excused or unexcused if you keep your kids home due to weather?

Way to go Lawrence...it's only -15 outside. Way to think of those kids and not the bottom line... seriously, what is one more day?

KCK and KCMO school are out tomorrow as is Desoto and Olathe... Really hoping they take into consideration the temps in the morning, when they decide to have school or not tomorrow.

Lawrence school board to decide how to make up time lost to snow; classes, activities likely to resume Thursday

I agree. We haven't even seen a snow plow in our neighborhood yet, but hey it shouldn't be a problem to get out right? I think they should drive every street in Lawrence and not just those on the west side of town, that get plowed first.

However, I do agree with making up the time on Wednesdays because even the teachers think it's a waste of time at the end of the day to add 5 minutes..Nothing can be taught in that time.

My kids stay in because they have health issues that the cold only aggravates. They don't go outside at school when it's this cold. It has to 15 degrees or warmer for them to go out at school and even then mine stay in.
As far as finacial difficulties, that is not the issue...

Actually yes, my kids haven't been outside since school has been out. It's too cold.
