KU's Big Event getting bigger: Thousands turn out to volunteer for one-day, citywide effort
There was a fine group of engineering students that came to rake leaves and trim evergreen bushes to dramatically improve the appearance of both the front and back yards. Thanks for all their energy and teamwork on my behalf and for the rest of their community involvement.

City gives more thought to whether glass ought to be included in proposed curbside recycling program
When, not if but when, the city awards the recycling contract, will they specify that no fuel surcharges will be added/allowed for the life of that contract?

City says extra trash won't count against households during post-holiday time period
With the new sporadic 3 strike system now in place, is this an annual count, reset to zero on the 1st of each year, or for the miscreant's lifetime use/abuse of the trash service?

Legislature facing tough tax choices in 2013
Gee, I don't remember seeing the Kansas Chamber of Commerce on the last ballot. So without being an elected representative, the KCC is considering canceling the decrease in sales tax? When did they become part of the Kansas government to make decisions affecting everybody statewide?

Daylight saving time to end at 2 a.m. Sunday; Lawrence police preparing for extra hour of bars being open
Back in the day, in the same galaxy as gccs14r, the bars closed on the first 2 am and we didn't get that extra hour of bar drinking time.

Trash carts coming October 15
I like the assumption that the carts will automatically be stored in the garage. What if there is no garage or, as in my case, the garage is detached and using it for cart storage is problematic? Thank you city planners for handing me a new decorative object for my sidewalk, I imagine it'll nestle nicely in the bushes between uses.

Have you been following the Republican National Convention?
I voted no before remembering the exemplary coverage I've enjoyed on The Daily Show. So my vote is still no Re: taking the convention with any serious regard, except for watching the republicans being laughingly skewered. I'm sure the democrats will receive the same respectful treatment.

No to rec center
It seems I recall that when AAU basketball teams played here that Allen Fieldhouse was placed off-limits as a possible unfair recruiting advantage for the Hawks. If KU has any say in this luxury rec-center, isn't it possible that all these speculative games might not be allowed here also for the same reason? Of course with Misery gone to the sec, maybe nobody else will notice.

Is your Internet service fast enough?
Well, AT&T started limiting, or adding dollars for breaking their arbitrary limits, the first 7 years no caps and now slower loading pages, seems the newer the pc the slower, probably just a bad home IT person
