New law allowing innovative school districts produces questions
"it is a cover for another agenda"
Exactly. We're forced to wonder what the agenda is. What's the angle? Where's this leading? Which campaign donor profits? I suppose we'll soon find out.

Lawrence attorney disbarred, accused of $200,000 ethics violation
Not too many details in the order:
"...Jon Michael King of Lawrence, Kansas, an attorney admitted to the practice of law in the state of Kansas, voluntarily surrendered his license to practice law in Kansas...
"At the time the respondent surrendered his license, he was pending a panel hearing on a complaint in accordance with Supreme Court Rule 211..."

Yes, those silly babies born to poor moms have just made bad choices. Now they'll just have to take the consequences.

Attorney general seeks $1.2 million to defend new laws
Well, sometimes you're not sure what the courts will say about the constitutionality of a given law. I just wish we could limit ourselves to passing only one insane law which we know will be challenged at a time. Let it work its way through the courts until we find out it's unconstitutional. Then, and only then, should we pass the next insane law. That should slow us down to a rate of about one crazy law every 5 years. I think we could absorb that.
OTOH, this wild influx of insanity may actually get the voters' attention sooner rather than later.

Police seeking suspect in robbery of laptop at Lawrence Visitor Center
Can you really say he robbed the laptop? Wouldn't you say he robbed the man? He stole the laptop.

Lawrence nurse to become full-time missionary
I have to respond to this. My father was an atheist, and he personified the Good Samaritan. He never passed a person broken down on the road without stopping to help. One time the guy he stopped for tried to club him over the head. Luckily he wasn't far out of the car; he just fell back into the driver's seat, slammed the door, and drove home. When my mom asked if this meant he'd stop helping stranded motorist, he said, "No, I'll still stop for anyone needing help."
He didn't belong to any 'atheist organizations' (and, I'll add, he would never have posted anti-religious comments on a forum like this - he was a live-and-let-live kind of person), but he was a helper nonetheless.

Lawrence nurse to become full-time missionary
Yes, I think if I ever do anything interesting enough for the paper to do a feature article on me, I'll just say 'no thanks'!

No. Coffee shops don't belong in libraries.

"Why I Left the Republican Party" -- 03/16/13 at Lawrence Arts Center
A lot of candidates lose in primaries and don't switch parties.
“My family has been Republican since Lincoln – since the party started. My parents, my grandparents, my great-grandparents were all Republicans. But it’s changed. There’s no room for people who actually think in moderation.”
Doesn't sound like she just switched parties in a snit.
