Lawrence road crews begin plowing neighborhoods; Sidewalk snow ordinance deadline is 8 a.m. Saturday
A few thoughts from another angle.
Those who edit copy for these fine writers/bloggers are not necessarily unappreciative of the writing (I for one am very appreciative!). To the contrary: many of those who point out an error or two (especially just after a story is posted!) may just instinctively want to help smooth or tighten a story for subsequent readers. In my experience, even the best of writers often wish for "one more eye" to the text before it goes out to the public; ideally, good editors are behind the scenes as a back-up crew, making many writers' quality works look even better (often for sheer enjoyment vs. pay).
It's true that the tone of various self-appointed editors on this forum varies widely. At the heart of it, however, I like to think most copy commentators view themselves as doing a good (albeit quick and small) deed by using skills that took many years to learn and hone. In short, many armchair copy editors admire the writers and want to contribute to their success--and, of course, to the readers' experience.
Let's allow for a bit of enjoyment all the way around.

The sun is peeking out--vs. peaking (unless we are talking Maslow's hierarchy of needs!). :)

Lawrence City Commissioner Lance Johnson being sued over $1.95M bank loan
Given the history and absolute predictability of The Lance Vote at such meetings, I fear the answer regarding Compton's action is (a resounding) "yes"!

Jayhawk statue and ATMs at Kansas Union damaged overnight
Shaun. Thoughtful of you to take time to comment! Thank you for doing that.
The positive in all this is that people obviously read and enjoy your work. (And we have more time to catch glitches than you, the actual writer who lives in a world where stories now tend to get posted in "real" time.)

Ah, but you are reading the newly revised copy (changed after I sent the correction). Here's the original sentence that appeared:
The 5-foot sculptures are made of fiberglass and only weighs (sic) about 100 pounds.
I was simply helping the author catch the error in case the piece went to hard copy for tomorrow's paper. :)

". . . sculptures are made of fiberglass and only WEIGH about 100 pounds."
or
". . . sculpture IS made of fiberglass and only weighs about 100 pounds."
