KU alumna’s outlook on life a positive influence she left behind

I'm still thinking of you a lot, Jessica. The world is a lesser place without you in it.

Mentors needed for Lawrence Big Brothers Big Sisters

We do carefully screen all of our volunteers. In the 20-year history of Big Brothers Big Sisters here in Lawrence, KS, we have never had even one allegation of abuse of a Little. We do rely on volunteers, and that means that sometimes kids do have to wait a while for a Big. Boys usually wait longer, as we do not have enough Big Brother volunteers.

I'm sorry it didn't work out with you, Sunshine, but rest-assured, our staff is completely dedicated to serving the children of our community. We don't just "mean well", we have a proven history of making successful mentoring matches. We have a small staff and budget, but a child's safety and well-being are always our number 1 priority.

Trust me, for every *one* parental complaint, there are 50-100 compliments from parents, who are so grateful for their kids' amazing Bigs!

Homeless shelter director ‘embarrassed’ by ABC story lauding him as a saint

Loring did NOT contact Lawhorn to tell him about the ABC story. Why on earth do you think that? I think it's because you're jealous of Loring because he is doing amazing things with his life, and you are just posting mean comments on LJ World. Find something more positive and productive to do with your life, dude.

Gender identity policy fails to win panel’s endorsement

Such a sad day for Lawrence. I feel privileged that I am gender-confident. I only wish that those who are NOT could have the same rights as me.

Mentors keep young blacks on track

Rukus, you should completely stop criticizing this program until you start your own program.

You can go ahead and start a program just for whites. Go ahead. You can do it. ...But there's no way in hell you will because all you want to do is CRITICIZE OTHERS, not do anything remotely constructive.

Commission votes against including gender identity in Lawrence's anti-discrimination policy

No one in Lawrence would "retaliate" against anyone who voted against this! Except maybe with their vote. Elected officials should be able to stand up for their point of view, no matter their stance. If you're a coward or unable to stand by your vote, you shouldn't be voting on issues such as this!

Commission votes against including gender identity in Lawrence's anti-discrimination policy

Is there anyone in the world who is a heterophobe? Being heterophobic would mean that you hate/are frightened of 90-98% of humanity, including your own parents (at least most of the time). Who has the energy/time for all that hate? No one except maybe the Phelps Family...and obviously they aren't focused on the heteros out there.
