Early-morning accident sends Lecompton woman, 21, to LMH

18 years old and an open container. Not such a good driver, eh? Glad she didn't kill someone.

Alcohol suspected as factor in rollover accident south of Eudora

No such thing as a "smart drunk." Anyone that drives drunk is stupid. I hope "the man" throws everyone of the "smart drunks" in jail before they kill someone.

Ever carry a friend and their mom to their grave because of a "smart drunk" killed them? It sucks. Had "the man" caught the idiot that killed my friends, they might still be alive.

Executive pay varies widely at Lawrence nonprofits

The key word is Average. There is considerable differences in what an acute care (hospital) RN earns and what a nursing home or rehab facility RN earns.

I want both. I would want a high-quality nurse caring for me. I also want a well-paid CEO who has the vision and knowledge that their facility is and will be financially viable. I would also want the CEO to manage a facility that will be there for my family and my community's healthcare needs for generations to come. Mr. Meyer is accomplishing both.
It's not Mr. Meyer's problem, nor anybody else's, that 50% of this country made $26K in 2010. Does that 50% have a Bachelor's degree - or a Master's? And don't gritch about opportunity. There is more financial opporturnity for people making a lower income to go back to school and have it financed in the form of grants. The key is want and desire.

They could probably hire 5 or 6 nurses at the going rate. Gene is a CEO. He does actual and very relevant work and is responsible for every employee, every transaction, and everything associated with LMH. He deserves the pay, every dime.

Greedy? No way. Greedy is someone like Oliverius at Stormont in Topeka who makes over $1 million a year in total compensation.

I would take a hiring freeze over layoffs anyday.

Clamor erupts over teen’s tweet about Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback

Several of us ran into Gov. Sebelius years ago at Target in Topeka and she was just as sloppily dressed. We said hi and she barely smiled, ducked her head, and kept walking. My wife and I were having a late night supper at Outback Steakhouse years ago when Brownback was Senator and at least he took the time to have a nice conversation with us. Sebelius - total snob.

Three being treated in Lawrence after overdosing

Fine - I'll judge them then.

They are stupid, stupid, stupid.

Recreational drug use that ends up as a overdose is stupid - as alcohol is. First of all, do you realize it can kill you? Secondly, do you realize how many resources taking care of these people ties up - all in the name of fun? The EMS workers, nurses, doctors, technicians, and hospital bed ? Now multiply that by 3.

Be considerate of others. Before you dabble in drugs or alcohol, think of how your actions are going to affect others - drivers, medical personnel, etc.

New KCK casino looking for 1,000 workers

Great attitude. I can think of a dozen who who jump at the chance to make $13/hr plus benefits rather than sitting at home on the couch.

Critics blast Brownback for attending prayer day hosted by 'inhumane' anti-gay groups

Constitutional violation?

You mean Kathy's fundraiser at a taxpayer-provided residence?

You're absoluely correct that Tiller the Killer had nothing to do with religion. How could someone so cold hearted, who kills babies at term, be affilated with religion?

Critics blast Brownback for attending prayer day hosted by 'inhumane' anti-gay groups

But when Queen Kathleen hosts a party for a late term abortionist - at her taxpayer-funded residence, where are all your voices? Where's your outrage? What a bunch of hypocrites!
