Just Food agency and letter carriers want your canned and dry foods to 'Stamp Out' hunger
I'm waiting for the next article/quote by the current leadership expounding on their greatness. The quote "I put food on those people's table" was and is quite telling. Good point lefylucky.

Local food pantries collaborate to provide healthy food
......just one more thought. The use of the language "these people" in the article feels likes fingernails on a chalk board to me. This use of language suggests people seeking services are somehow different and separate from those not seeking services. The truth is any one of us at any time could become - and perhaps have been - a member of the "these people" club in Lawrence. Such language is shaming.

I agree hunger exists in our community. I also agree it is important for agencies to work together. That said, I am wondering about the number stated in the article (10,000 in a month). Are you telling me that daily there were 500 people walking in to receive food? Unduplicated folks? 500?? (calculating 20 days of the agency being open a month)....and , of course, these numbers have been verified by UW officials and the reporter before the article was printed? If so, then I am completely stunned. If not, then Mr. Farmer you have duped many.

United Way about $900,000 short of goal; leaders to extend donation timeframe
I am often confused by the concern of salaries from community members. It takes experience and commitment to lead a non-profit organization and those in leadership deserve a salary commensurate with their colleagues nation-wide. A non-profit is a business in these times - and it takes more than "good will" to lead such a business. I'm wondering if there can be a re-focus on the issue of what/how do we want to serve others in our community.

If "overhead" funding is not available then "results" won't matter because the agencies will no longer exist. While UW is busy figuring out "systemic change" - the people in our community are drowning in need.

Counseling center in tough spot without KU funding
Non-profit boards are the ones accountable and responsible for agencies. A board can indeed "force" an issue - that is the job of the board. An executive director does not have - or shouldn't have - more say in how the organization operates or even if it exists than the board of directors.

Maybe it's time for HQ to consider merging with another agency - Bert Nash?!
