Theatre Lawrence closes successful fundraising campaign for new building

If anyone was paying attention during all of the time they were requesting money from the city and county, none of those funds applied to the matching grants they were trying to meet. It was expressly stated a number of times. The city money anyway will be coming from guest taxes on hotel rooms. If you're not even going to the theater, then I'd say you're probably not staying at a local hotel either. None of those bucks are coming out of your pocket. I believe the intent is to be able to use some of that funding to be able to furnish the new place.
Let's see, what shall we all whine about tomorrow?

Should both the city and Douglas County governments give $100,000 each to support Theatre Lawrence's drive to build a new theater in West Lawrence?

So they should just go to the other venues and ask them to curtail the number of shows they do so someone else can also use the space? How do you suggest those stages be shared?

That's not entirely true. They first put on productions in the old Arts Center. It IS however, the first time they've ever asked for funding from the city or county.

Don't you think they looked at about every potential property in town for renovation? The Temple's been sitting undeveloped for years. Gee, do you think there might be a reason for that?

Theatre Lawrence receives city funding to help with new $6.2 million theater

LCT never asked the city for any funding for the past 35 years. I don't think you'll need to worry about a return trip. Gripe about the LAC taking tax funding if you're looking for a target.
