Bid for recreation center comes in about $10 million lower than expected; questions grow over other cost estimates
Does any of this money pay for the stuff that goes in he rec center? Like equipment, furniture, etc. who is paying for all that stuff. Does the parks and rec depr have that cash laying around?
I thought I heard that they were hoping for donations.
Anyone know " the truth"?

As city prepares to bid recreation center, officials still waiting to receive cost numbers from Fritzel on infrastructure
The commissions spend our money so carelessly on Rock Chalk Park while the planners run off Menards. A place I would actually like to spend my tax dollars to attract to Lawrence. Also Lowes, Olive Garden, distribution centers, etc etc etc

Report: McLemore’s AAU coach took agent money
NCAA let this go. It's the AAU coach that was wrong.

City approves retail zoning for site across the highway from Rock Chalk Park
It doesn't hurt downtown. Downtown hurts itself by not being open when 8-5 working people need to shop.

Does Lawrence really have a shortage of gyms?
If the school district let kids use the gym space we would have plenty of space. We even have schools we aren't using. Remodel them.

Realtors rally to oppose Brownback's plan to eliminate homeowner tax deductions
Are you people on this blog homeowners? All you complainers sound like a bunch of jealous renters.
I don't want to give up my mortgage deduction to brownback until I see real legislation that makes our politicians spend more wisely. They spend money like a bunch of spoiled rich kids.

City being asked to get the ball rolling on new 20- to 60-acre retirement village
We should pay attention to the aging population. It is the fastest growing population segment in the US. By 2030 1/5 of our population will be over 55.
We all are getting older, it will be all of us sooner than we think.

Baker University president retiring in 2014
Pat is an amazing President. She will be missed. My son is getting an amazing education from Baker. The school is so active and helpful in the students education during and after graduation.
Thank you Pat for all you have done. Good luck!
