Mirth Cafe closing Monday, moving to new location downtown
Luppy's did not fulfill the void of Milton's and the new owners of the Milton's remake (Red Rooster) have a poor track record.
Poor track record? I have really only been witness to good things. How can you justify your claim when this is their first real endeavor? I certainly hope The Roost can carve out a following.

Solar panels on the roofs of downtown Lawrence buildings ready to start cranking out electricity
With 35mm going away, they will have to invest in brand new digital projection equipment as well. I hope they are able to swing it.

Winter storm warning expires; Over 3 inches of snow reported in Lawrence
I'm not in the city defending business, particularly regarding the plows not being on the trucks. But I can certainly understand why they did not salt and sand the streets earlier in the day. WIth it being so late in the season, and considering all the weather we have had, I can imagine that supplies and budget are getting thin. And for most of the day, temperatures were high enough to keep anything from freezing over. Combined with a sizable amount of rain, the salt and sand would do nothing but wash away. Of course the weather eventually changed over, but it is still winter. Stay off the roads unless you have to, and expect that the roads are going to be nasty. With a little care and patience, you will make it home. Just don't expect every street (even the main roads) to be constantly clear.

Lawrence man arrested after pointing gun at girlfriend
I would recommend that she break up with him. That kind of thing should be a deal breaker.

Drivers’ use of K-TAGs rises as toll increase approaches
On a road trip to Mississippi a couple of years ago, my little four door sedan bottomed out on in unavoidable pothole while driving on I-55 outside of Sikeston, MO. That stretch of highway resembled a reverse mogul run. Consequently, my car was never quite the same again. Even after extensive repair, it still shimmied at higher speeds.
I'll gladly pay a buck or two to confidently drive down a well maintained freeway. The complainers can always use 24-40 or K-10. In fact, I recommend it.

Two Lawrence residents injured in collision on Highway 24-40 near Lawrence
That intersection is a popular detour point with the road construction going on in the area of 59 Hwy. and 24-40.
Be careful, folks. It can be difficult to judge the speed of oncoming traffic on that highway.
Hopefully, all those involved will be ok.

Police find flooding at Oread Inn site both Wednesday and Thursday morning
I may be completely wrong, but I seem to remember heavy rains associated with the water main break in September.Strange coincidence that both of these flooding incidents occur during heavy precipitation, yet the cause of the flooding is blamed on a water main break, and now someone opening a fire hydrant.Just an observation.
