Topeka sewage in Kansas River should not affect Lawrence

I have had the opportunity to tour water treatment facilities in both Topeka and in Lawrence and I think that Eudora can sleep a little sounder knowing that we are in between them and Topeka.

Editorial: Voting hoops

At the DMV today, the woman in line before me was getting a new license. She recently married and she wanted to change the name on her license. She brought her new Social Security Card to show her name, but they wouldn't take it and said they needed the actual marriage certificate. So she went ahead and renewed with her prior name. Then she was asked if she wanted to register to vote. When she said yes, she was asked to produce her birth certificate which she didn't have, so she couldn't do that either. Everyone was very pleasant on both sides of the counter, but that is asinine.

The force of reading is strong at the library's Star Wars Reads

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this together. My son said it was "awesome!" and he is ready to go back. All of the activities were fun, but I have to give special kudos to the light saber station since they have been played with pretty much non-stop since the event. Beats the pants off the sabers you can buy in a store! Great job!!
