More money, more money, more money......I personally do not have any more money for the Lawrence school system..... it seems to me the board spends most of their time thinking up new ways to spend the tax money they get from us....way too much., Help we poor people!

12-year-old Lawrence girl raises money to help kids in need buy Halloween costumes
While I certainly applaud Elizabeth's motives, and effort, I keep comparing in my mind the difference between buying cheap costumes and essential groceries or utilities., as far as the recipients are concerned.... which would be more important to me if I couldn't put food on the table for my children???

Safety net
Is it not true that the taxpayer (worker) does NOT pay into unemployment funds? Rather, that the employer bears this burden alone, as a cost of doing business? I can't recall ever seeing a deduction from a pay check for "unemployment insurance".... am I correct?

Boy killed after being struck by vehicle
What a misleading headline! The boy was not "killed" - he died as a result of the accident.... headline sounds like someone took him out and shot him. Condolences to the family.

Shortage of donations forces Salvation Army to close food pantry
hose of us who are able to buy our groceries MUST step up to the plate and support the various food pantries in town - when, ever, before, has Salvation Army been unable to help the people who need it most? Perhaps Harvesters, out of Kansas City, has this program, but recently I have heard of a program in the state of Michigan which collects only food which would normally be thrown away because of the laws (fast food places, bakeries, restaurants, caterers, etc. ec. are required to dump perfectly good food when it is a few hours old sometimes!), and this program, called called "Forgotten Harvests" last year served 9 million pounds of food to children! This all takes work, and organization - meantime, most of us can afford to donate some staples weekly to whatever pantry is closest to us..... who knows, you might need to take advantage of this on the other end some day! Let's be generous!

Toilet paper: over or under?
How trivial can we get in Lawrence, Kansas? With all the important things going on in our city, and our world, today, we are discussing toilet paper???? We deserve what we get!
