Job cuts an issue at city budget talks
That was only temporary. He's had 2 assistant city managers for over a year now, plus an assistant TO the city manager, and a secretary. You wanna start eliminating jobs? Start at the 4th floor.

Friends seek ghost bike memorial for hit-and-run victim
So does this mean the ordinance will change (it's currently illegal to lock a bike to a street sign) or will this be a special exception?

City avoids tax increase, but eliminates division
Sunny: There's not just the two assistant city managers. There's also the assistant TO the city manager AND a city manager secretary. Very top heavy, if you ask me.

City avoids tax increase, but eliminates division
$170,000 for 2 positions? Wow. This combined with seeing a parks and rec truck driving around town today with sponge bob strapped to the front makes me think that city employees are a joke.

Churches cleared for shelter use
"Mark Bradford, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical chief, had urged commissioners to require the churches to comply with the city’s fire code and install sprinkler systems. But commissioners said they disagreed with Bradford’s interpretation of the code, and said the sprinklers would not be required."
Of course, because I'm sure our city commissioners know more about the fire code than the fire chief. Last time I looked, none of their resumes included any fire service administration studies or credentials. Why bother having department heads if you're not going to listen to them and seriously consider their expertise. After all, that's what you're paying them for!

Nature center to stay open
Apparently alot of people don't understand the difference between a "need" and a "want". If you're still confused, see Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. I'll even include a link for you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's... our current economy, we must fund "needs" before we fund "wants". Anyone who would chose to fund a "want" before a "need" should have their head examined.

Driver flees scene of wreck near Sixth and Iowa streets
No, Smitty, we don't want. Everyone who's every spent any time on these boards knows how anti-LPD you are. This article isn't about the PD or Bordman. Please stick to the topic and not fill up these boards with your diatribe against the PD.

City’s first baby of 2009 showered in gifts
And MO3, I'm very glad that things worked out so well for your family. Sadly, you are the exception, not the rule.

City’s first baby of 2009 showered in gifts
I apologize if my comments seemed out of line. People I have known in similar circumstances have made me have a negative perception. In my experience, those who have kids and don't marry their baby daddy/mama have done so for 1 of 3 reasons:1. They can take advantage of welfare.2. They are waiting until they lose the baby weight so they can wear a pretty dress and have a big party.3. They aren't sure they want to marry this person and be with this person for the rest of their life. Unfortunately, they see nothing wrong with saddling a kid with that person for the rest of his or her life.NOTE: I am not implying that these reasons apply to this couple or MO3. I'm only saying that these have been the reasons people I have known personally have for not marrying their kids dad/mom. And I have a problem with that, because in each of these reasons it's all about "me" and not what's in the best interest of the kid.

While it's true that the divorce rate is currently something around 60%, I bet the rate for couples who have kids unmarried and break up is even higher. Mom of 3: Glad you didn't want to "rush into marriage". Too bad you "rushed into" sex you weren't sure you wanted to spend the rest of your life with.
