Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts won’t back Chuck Hagel to become secretary of defense

No...he did a terrible job and continued the thought process that congress is a consultant regarding military action....I mean acts of war. Panetta is of the mind that the military will dictate to congress.

Brennan was the muscle behind drone warfare and is the worst person to head the CIA. Obama has made a terrible terrible decision to nominate Brennan. It shouldn't be a surprise though since Obama prefers to bomb children in other countries but enact executive orders that will fail to protect children in our own country.

Constitutional law professor....what a flippin joke.

Executive orders for everyone. Wasn't he supposed to be the anti executive order president?

More armed citizens = less violent crime.

Concealed carry permit applications surge in weeks since Sandy Hook shooting

I think the reasonable question to ask is.....If that teacher in Newtown had access to a firearm to protect herself and those poor children do you think she would have reached for it?

Would you do the same?

I try to put myself in her position and the only answer to my question is yes....yes I think she and anyone would. Every single time. Since the prior gun ban proved to be unsuccessful in preventing massacres and we know the criminals don't abide by the law, the threat and possibility will always be there.

I'm not saying to arm the teachers but merely pointing out that if you would reach for a gun in the Newtown situation (no matter how improbable it may seem) why would you deny that form of protection from anyone else?

"Yes, there are many responsible gun owners who are not negligent. The problem is how to keep the negligent ones from getting ownership of guns and permits to carry them in the first place. Clearly, the concealed-carry licensing requirements are not stringent enough to filter out irresponsible people"-Voevoda

It's largely an impossible task. This is the price of having the right to be armed. I think it's worth it. What you are looking for is a guarantee and you're not going to get one.

So where's the sweeping legislation or enforcement of preventative measures for wrongful deaths from police?

Bang! "Ooops....looks like we got the wrong guy Chuck." Then comes the suspension with pay and a reinstatement to a desk job all the while the family is tied down in litigation for years before they see any compensation.

The body count from wrongful deaths perpetrated by police is unacceptable but goes largely unnoticed nationally. There aren't special interest groups lobbying for preventative measures for these crimes because by in large the victims are poor, live in high crime areas, and of color.

That's a fair assessment. Maybe take his license for a year.

There are probably dozens and dozens of fire arms "accidentally" discharged by police throughout the course of a year....and they're supposedly the best trained to use them. This is one guy who screwed up. Could it have been worse? Yes, but it wasn't.

Search: "police raid and kill wrong" in google.

Where's the outrage?

Letter: Disarming

I don’t see where the government has any credibility in using weapons designed to kill. The federal government knowingly kills children and has in fact targeted a child and killed him with a drone strike. For the federal government and Obama to lecture the citizens on responsible use of weapons is beyond hypocrisy.

Many on the gun control side ask why would I need an AR-15 for self defense and I think it’s a fair question. My response is why does the DHS need 1 Billion plus hollow point rounds? If you want to talk about designed to kill, a hollow point is an effective round. That round is not designed to just kill it is designed to kill and leave gaping holes from the exit wound. http://www.examiner.com/article/depar...

Why is the government allowed to prepare for civil unrest but wants to deny that right to the citizens
