Senate approves bill to put KDOT secretary in charge of Kansas Turnpike Authority

Bad sign when the current KDOT Secretary doesn't have any idea how the merger would save 30 million. I do, after speaking with KTA Trooper he told me they now can make any state highway a toll road and specifically said 59 highway from Lawrence to Ottawa could be a toll road. Brownback hates Lawrence/Dg Co and I'm sure he would make sure it got hit first. To stay with his current trend of passing the buck, people would use county roads much more passing the buck onto the county to maintain their roads. Same song and dance from these Neocon Brownback Republicans, I cut your state income tax, but took away middleclass tax breaks which actually means you will owe the state more than ever.

Senate considers bill that would have fewer convicts going to prison, and for shorter time

Basically the republicans are passing the buck to the counties, releasing/keeping more criminals in the community. At the same time not giving parole and probation officers a raise for the 5th year in row, but giving them more offenders to supervise. The republicans hate state employees (Rep. Marc Rhodes), but the legislative branch has had a pay raise for the past four years and will probably get another this year. You people that only think violent offenders should be in prison or jail don't complain when your car is broken into so the can buy drugs or break into your house when you're not home. Just be happy you state taxes are a couple of dollars cheaper.

Douglas County employees may have to pay an increased share of health care costs

The county can afford to support the homeless shelter, which is nothing but a financial sucking hole in this community. Most county employees have had no raises, have no chance for overtime or bonuses, but they deserve to be crapped on.

Kansas Court of Appeals rules Martin Miller should get new murder trial

We used to until our senate/congress passed the NDAA and Obama signed it that allows American citizens to be arrested and held without a hearing indefinitely.

Bill would give certification to batterer intervention programs

Batterer intervention programs cost well over a thousand dollars and there are only a hand full of them in the state. The offender has to pay the full amount up front, even after the judge waives all their costs these guys can't afford the program anyway. Might as well just have them serve the sentence. This requirement just back logs the courts because they have to keep going back to court because they didn't complete the program. The state should have to pay for the program, which is just fine because the legislature isn't going to give a raise to the people who have to deal with them anyway.

Clamor erupts over teen’s tweet about Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback

Brownshirt pays attention to a girls tweet but not citizens of Kansas maybe he should assign her one of his religious mentors for convicts so he can re-educate her. Won't be long before we are all sent to the FEMA camps to be re-programmer. Since we are all from Kansas and not Florida we are all the enemy of the state.

Prior DUIs don't always count

Branson has more staff than the previous DA so there goes his we lack of resources excuse. The article used 3 examples, but after speaking with my best friend a probation officer and no I'm not on probation, he informed me that all Sprouse's criminal history was found in about 5 minutes by they're office. Those 3 examples are just a fraction of under charged DUI's by Branson the article would have been way to long to list them all. Glad to see he would not change the way his office handles DUI's even after they screw it up time and time again. Several times at sentencing the judges have had to sentence the offenders for the correct amount DUI's because Branson has under charged them. Branson critized the previous DA now all he does is make exuses and bacically out right lies instead of admitting that being the DA is way more than expected and can handle. I'm sure the Sheriff and Police departments are happy with him trying to blame them for under charging, it's never the law enforcement officers job to provide criminal histories for charging. Of course they're not even allowed in his office so why not blame them.
