Good fathering should be the norm
Being a father means unconditional love, commitment, and responsiblity. A true dad (or mom) just does those things--not to be a hero or get recognition. It is because they genuinely love their children for who they are--mistakes and all--and try to teach them how to be responsible adults who will love their own children unconditionally some day. There are plenty of parents who do not do these things, but I would say as a general rule there are a lot more parents who do. It is sad to see any parent that does not get to know their children for the person they are. Children are a GIFT.

All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year: Tonganoxie's Schaffer shows confidence
Confidence?. . . or plenty of arrogance with not an ounce of humility.

Matthew Jaeger sentenced to nearly 9 years in prison
Hallelujah! Wish he had gotten more time and an attempted murder charge, but I'll take this for now. Usually sickos like him will hang themselves if given enough rope, no matter how much money daddy has or how smart he and his family think they are.

Police find firearm, marijuana in Free State student's car
I realize the "must live in Topeka" comment is a sarcastic one, but really? Seems that marijuana is the thing to do. There are so many teenagers that are in posession of and experimenting with marijuana, and maybe even "addicted." Sad, but true.

Lecompton man dies from injuries he received in motorcycle accident
From what I understand, no citations were issued for anyone involved. Neither vehicle saw the other and it was simply an accident. Pointing fingers does not help anyone.

Jaeger found guilty on three of four charges
Hallelujah on the verdict! My heart goes out to the victim. Regardless of the "character" the defense was trying to portray, under any circumstances she did not deserve the way she was treated. I pray she will be able to heal her emotional scars and move on with her life. Her courage is astounding.
