Opinion: Free expression bypasses abortion issue
By all means lets criticize a well known and accomplished author for the way he writes instead of admitting that the questions he asks and the points he makes are valid.

Douglas County to hire construction manager for new public works facility
So Douglas County will spend 10 million dollars and the project will be handled out an out of state out of county firm. There are really good building firms here in Lawrence. Hard to believe that none of them could of done this project. More tax revenue that goes out of town.

Mailers on Kansas tax cuts go out ahead of election
I have no comment about this brochure, but I do take exception to a number of comments about all republicans as Liars, Cheaters, and no good people.....
I am a republican. I own my own business. I treat my employees well. I pay for 50% of a good health insurance plan for them. In the past 5 years, I have had employees who had cancer and were unable to work for more than 6 months each, and I paid them their full wage the entire time that they were off. I currently have an employee who is off waiting to have surgery and I am paying their full wages even though they are unable to work. I have loaned my employees thousands of dollars, not charging them any interest and allowing them to take several years to pay back what they have borrowed. I donate my services to mutliple schools and organizations not out of my excess, but out of my desire to help. I'm not perfect, but I am not a cheater, liar or a no good person.

Flag abuse
Considering the wide disparity of reasons that people think it is good or bad to drape the flag over one's shoulders, I can see that there are many sides and points of view on this. Personally it doesn't bother me, but I can see how some people think more reverently of the flag. I suppose if I had lost a loved one who was fighting for ourcountry I would be more sensitive to the one icon that calls back my memories of that loss. Personally, I am just grateful for anyone who is patriotic and loves our country enough to be proud of who they are and where they are from. I am grateful to be an American, I know that I have enjoyed many privileges by virtue of being a citizen of this great land.

Nomadic churches searching for permanent home
I hope Eastlake and these other "non-traditional" Churches find the space that they need. They are obviously filling a spiritual need for many people in our town. Although I attend a traditional and permanent Church building, I'm grateful for anyone who can help others both physically and spiritually.
I have also had the pleasant experience of working with Matt Cox and his staff over the past few years on a professional business level and they are good people with honest intentions. I wish them all the best.

Funding for the arts restored in new state budget
People really left Kansas over the fact that the Governor cut funding for the arts? Hmmm.... I'd like to know the name of a single person who did that. I understand the passion for your opinion but making up stuff just makes you look foolish and desperate to prove your point, and actually doesn't do anything to make you look credible.

Signee Perry Ellis a valedictorian
Brian Hanni is such a great guy! I wish him the best at Texas Tech, but will miss him here in Lawrence. We have lost a great talent and a wonderful person. I can only hope that someday, he will return to the Jayhawk Nation where he belongs! Good luck Brian!
