Lawrence Mayor Jeremy Farmer submits resignation to city

Riordan was the 1st runner up. Never should have been voted out. He should be reinstated by votes. Forget about the sports complex, this is so much more weird, people.

Two people injured in two-vehicle crash at 31st and Iowa

I was an eye witness in the left lane going forward west bound on 31st at the time of the collision. First car in the green light lane going forward. Just finished my tour of the new 31st street. Should have stayed home, clearly.

Kansas collects $3.7M less in taxes than expected this month

Good catch Bryce. I went to Wheatfields after I read the article online, and snagged the actual newspaper. The sales tax article was Completely Different, and as you say, referred to soft spending. Mr Lawhorn has some splainin' ti do.

Kansas collects $3.7M less in taxes than expected this month

Sales tax collected in July is not due to the State until AUGUST 25!
The reporter should know this and the Dept of Revenue definitely knows this crucial fact. The sales tax report is actually June sales tax that was just paid last week. So when you see the report at the end of August, you will see the 1st deposit of increased sales tax.

City asked to cut downtown employees a break on parking; talk of a downtown liquor store versus downtown grocery

Good work Mallory! There is a huge difference in the mind set of Shopping and Working downtown. As a shopper I Expect to walk to all the places. As an owner/worker I expect to get there ON TIME, and if I am dealing with customers, I will stay with them as my 5 hour meter expires. The current $50 habitual offender tickets target only employees, who are mostly minimum wage workers. They are there every day! Bringing Lawrence sales tax dollars. Oh, and businesses pay Very high property taxes.
Do you have any numbers for how many employees are working in all the businesses in any given hour during the day, when meters and 2 hour parking is in force? It has to be hundreds!

Sound Off: License stickers

I got my new sticker last month and it is too big to fit in space of the previous one. It had to overlap the top of the license numbers.

City, public need time to evaluate northwest plans

Dolph, Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Have you had headlines about this? I knew about the sports proposal but but not the zoning. Now I will have to start reading the Commission Agenda again.
The dumpster thing is too funny, I thought you were being witty the first time you mentioned it, but apparently you are reporting it as true by the end of the piece. Now that would have been a great headline!
