KU department criticizes Gray-Little's approach to efforts on stemming sexual assaults

"student's allegation that she was raped and her assailant received a light school sanction".

OK...how about one of you protesters fill us in on the criminal prosecution of this assailant. I'd be interested in hearing what kind of court case, trial and possible sentencing was involved.

Hundreds turn out for KU sexual assault forum; student group demands investigation

BTW...this is The University of Kansas...a large college, not "Under The Dome". To believe that you are "safe" here is absurd. This isn't life in a bubble. This is a college campus and people from all over the world are here. You are no safer here than in/on any other city street or locale. If you have another perception, as a student, you were not given adequate information by your high school, parents, or others you spoke with before you came here. Why do you think the university has a police department ? They are actual commissioned law enforcement officers because KU has actual crime and the size of the university demands it. The city would never be able to cover all the calls KUPD receives.

Hundreds turn out for KU sexual assault forum; student group demands investigation

KU has nothing to do with this. IF and when a crime is reported to KUPD it is investigated and ALL reports of the incident are forwarded to the city or district attorney for further investigation/possible charges. The KUPD only responds to see if a crime has been committed and, if so, it is investigated to the fullest. In 1980, before DNA and other forensic advances, other officers and I investigated a rape complaint. The suspect in that case is STILL serving time in a state prison and, if we get our way, will never return to society. Enough said ?

Letter: Police priorities

Those of you who have never walked that mile have no idea what the job or the organization is about. Officers are a walking target 24/7 and NEED the manpower, equipment and facilities to be able to go home at the end of their shift having done the best they could for you while on duty. If they can obtain ANY kind of equipment, training or service from ANYONE that is beneficial then great. People are trending towards the distrust/anger/hatred of law enforcement I remember from the 60s. Do not go backwards. Go forward without the new paranoia of some police conspiracy against you. They are not interested in anything other than keeping the peace and attempting to rid our community of those who desire to distribute drugs, vandalize property, steal, rob, rape, harass, or otherwise infringe on others' rights. If you don't like that agenda then perhaps you need to re-evaluate yours.

City to deliver recycling carts on Monday

Actually, my house is built on a landfill. Ask the city how much fun they had trying to run a sewer line through it !

City to deliver recycling carts on Monday

Unless you opt out but read my post and perhaps you'll get it and see into the future.

City to deliver recycling carts on Monday

It is a money making proposition for the city. In Germany they have mandatory recycling of paper, plastic, glass & aluminum each in separate containers. If you put something in your regular trash that's recyclable you get a 100 mark (euro) fine. Look for this friendly introduction to recycling to become mandatory in the future.

As city grows northwest, many new students won't be allowed to go to Lawrence schools

Bottom line...students going to Perry-LeCompton will receive a much better education. Period !

Lawrence man shot by police arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault; district attorney concludes shooting was justified

Certainly...if you would like to get close enough to use that against an individual who is loading a shotgun and already may have it loaded feel free. Common sense of survival and the failure to comply with the orders of a LEO by refusing to put the weapon down say shoot.
