Mail deliveries interrupted by snow; normal schedule should return Saturday

I think the mail carriers in this town do a great job, and take their work seriously; if they suspend service, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that there are some good reasons.

Menards files plans to build store east of Home Depot near 31st and Iowa

Yeah, didn't they claim recently that Obama was destroying the economy for small family owned businesses like theirs? What a bunch of goobers.

That makes sense to me. Shoppers near those cities have fewer options; shoppers who leave near Lawrence can pretty easily drive to Topeka or KC, too.

Fort Hays State student newspaper prints last issue; Daily Kansan editor says things going smoothly there

I still tell people about the time that I picked up a copy of their paper, about four years ago. In a poll of the student body, they found that people preferred McCain over Obama by 85% to 15%. And they call themselves a college town!

KU grad tells Denver Post about Adderall abuse in college

You know, I wish that someone had told me prior to attending college that employers don't actually ask or care what your grades were. No one at the bank asks your GPA before they approve a loan. Getting better grades is a pretty lousy trade off when you pick up a drug addiction.

Solar panels on the roofs of downtown Lawrence buildings ready to start cranking out electricity

The people I've talked to about it live in Missouri, is it different there? I guess I assumed it's similar in Kansas, guess not!

Solar panels on the roofs of downtown Lawrence buildings ready to start cranking out electricity

Here's how it works: when you generate more electricity than you can use, the energy company buys the excess, but at a rate that's a lot less than the market price. They get to sell energy that costs them nothing to produce, that's why they don't put up much of a fight against these kinds of laws.

Sound Off: Involuntary ear piercing

Well, somebody has to say it: If that child had been armed, this would not have happened.

Lawrence residents receive tickets for not clearing sidewalks

Retirees prefer snowy sidewalks? I had no idea! Maybe we could kick all of the college kids out of town, they'd probably like that too.

Kansas man accidentally shoots wife with gun at Lenexa restaurant

Ok, how about this: we let anybody do concealed carry without a permit, but you can ONLY have a rifle or shotgun. You would pretty much have to stick it down one pant leg; that way, if someone is walking around with a stilted goofy walk, you know they're packing heat. And here's the best part: everyone would start walking around like that! Crime plummets as confused criminals never know who to victimize! There is no downside to this plan.
