Should university professors be able to say anything they want on social media?

Guth's tweet was ignorant and inflammatory. But it wasn't illegal and he didn't claim to speak for KU. Therefore, I think he should have the first amendment right to make himself look as stupid as he wants to.

Friends of Lawrence Public Library organization starts raising funds in wake of bedbug incident

Many major hotels get rid if bedbugs by heating up the affected portions of the room to around 175 degrees. (No kidding.) They bake 'em out without chemicals.

Kansas on cutting edge of knife rights

There are some legitimate uses for "automatic" knives. I used to own a store that sold police, military, and EMT supplies. People in those jobs need to be able to use one hand to hold a tourniquet (for example) and use the other hand to get out their knife and cut away clothing or debris in an emergency situation. This was long ago in another state, but we could legally sell automatics to people with police, EMT, or military ID,

Letter: Enough Brownback

Oops. I just got one of the survey questions. I really miss the "fill in the blank" questions. Now those could be fun!

Letter: Enough Brownback

Are the stupid Google survey questions gone? I haven't seen one in a few days. They couldn't possibly have believed anyone would answer those stupid things truthfully. One of the questions I got was something like:

How many states are there in the United States?:
1. 20
2. 25
3. 50
4. 45
5. 10

I answered "10".

Bob Dole, Eisenhower’s granddaughter join Brownback’s re-election team

".....honorary national co-chairman...." Isn't governor a state office? Why does he need a national chairman, "honorary" or "co-" notwithstanding?

Lawrence man, among the few ticketed for Fourth of July fireworks, awaits his day in court

If spending $1 billion on advertising is "free speech" and burning the flag is "freedom of expression" then maybe shooting fireworks on the Fourth of July is also protected by the first amendment. Don't plead the fifth, Matt. Plead the first!
