Statehouse Live: Brownback's budget calls for no increase next year in school funding; abolishing mortgage interest tax deduction

Yes the people of Kanas elected him so now live with him . We are moving back to greener pastures and brighter prospects . The majority of this state is rural and sadly uneducated and its about to become even worse I fear.

Brownback: Keep state sales tax at current level, cut more income taxes; change judicial selection

Brownback is going to prove to be the worst thing to happen to Kansas since the Phelps family. He can "pray on it " all he wants but the policies he suggested today regarding taxes and education are absurd. Why dont we consider actually funding our educational system adequately instead of " holding third graders back " to repeat 3rd grade for a second time Anyone with an education themselves can tell you that there is NO research to support that as being an effective solution for students with reading problems . It is that type of backward thinking that contributes to keeping businesses out of Kansas......Must we always be the laughing stock of the nation ???!!!!

Public notice

Parents should be able to trust that ALL of the staff members would be able to control their emotions and NOT project their anger onto the children , thus "upsetting them" I hope some of these comments are not being made by staff at the school. If so , maybe other factors may have influenced the choice of school being closed.

No one is sorrier than me to see Wakarusa Valley or any other school in the district close but to villify Dr Doll because he took the time to go to Wakarusa the day after the announcement of the board decision is both childish and unprofessional. I am sure the students were not upset by his presence and neither was school staff with any common sense. Have you considered that it may have been a show of support on his part??

Langston Hughes principal leaving district for Gardner-Edgerton school

Anyone else wondering why we are losing two principals if , as Dr. Doll so eloquently points out, the job market is so poor that we will have no problem filling the positions. I am worried about why we are losing good people voluntarily -or are we??

Are you generally satisfied with how the Lawrence School Board handled the $5 million in budget cuts members had to make?

Happy go lucky is ill informed. The school nurses in no way feel they can replace the counselors. Though mental health is an area that is included in the curriculum for nurses who hold a Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing the type of counseling the school nurses do with students is typically on health issues . Very different from what the school counselors do. As for the statements regarding the Nurse Facilitator they are reallly just too juvenile and ignorant to address any further.

FINAL: KU overwhelms Missouri, 77-56

I seriously question the judgement of the team physician who allowed Marcus Morris to re-enter the game after a head injury that "knocked him out " briefly. It was a poor decision and one that put the player at risk. The possible extent of the head injury could not have been known at the time he re entered the game.

Emotion runs high at school forum

Those attending the forum do not speak for the majority of Lawrence citizens- they are just the most vocal right now. Many of us believe that the current number of elementary schools is not cost efficient and should have been decreased years ago. It is now time. The parents should be focusing on making any transitions as positive as possible for their children. The students will follow the lead of the adults.
