Opinion: Advisory board member backs rec center

Thank you, Jana...it is good to know our city employees do their homework. Now the citizens need to be given a chance to vote on the project, with the project being clearly defined on the ballot, not just in the newspaper. This project is too large, involving too many public dollars and resources, to let a handful of people decide for the public whether or not to commit those public dollars and resources. A public vote will put the project to the kind of public scrutiny a tax paying public deserves.

Lawrence resident taken to LMH after rollover accident at 21st and Louisiana

I saw the aftermath of this accident and have a couple of pics.. The Subaru ended upside down, pointing north, in the right hand lane of Louisiana if you are driving north on the southeast corner of 21st of Lousiana. The right turn signal was blinking. If the Subaru was driving south and the Dodge was driving west, I can't imagine how the Subaru was struck and traveled to land in this position.

Use of city buses down

I'd like to direct the Commission's attention, and especially the Public's attention to whom the Commission is responsible, to the following article titled "Fare-Free Public Transit Could Be Headed to a City Near You." This just showed up in my email or I would have posted sooner in the debate about the T. If ANY city in the world can make this work, as many are already doing, then Lawrence can too. http://www.alternet.org/story/57802/

Fresh-food dieter eats his way to health

"Sigmund," eh? Here is a link to a four part documentary produced by the BBC on the development of public relations in this country and Britain:

http://www.mercola.com/2007/mar/6/fre...

Seems the work of Sigmund Freud may never have been known by most of us unless Freud's work had been, as it still is, used by Big Business and Government to manipulate the masses, just like News Limited, "Sigmund," the company which publishes the online news "source" from which you have quoted your study above on the efficacies of a McDonald's diet. Seems that News Limited is owned by News Corporation, which is the Rupert Murdoch media conglomeration.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_Cor...

More "Big," "Sigmund," as I referred to in my original post. This time the biggest of Big Media. Did you check your source before you quoted it, "Sigmund?" Whether you did or did not, now your truth is suspect, at least for me.

You say I promulgate hysteria. No, "Sigmund," just pointing out the world as it is and becoming too much more so and for which you are apparently satisfied being a spokesperson. Booger it up all you want. We're all going down, my friend. When I go down, however, it will be standing up as a free man, choosing for myself health, unlike you, a puppet, no longer necessary, cut from the strings that make you dance.

Now, since I know I will never have the last word with someone like you, I've said all I'm going to say about this story and the issues ultimately involved here. I wish all of us, you too "Sigmund," the very best of health and especially the freedom to be able to choose health for ourselves. It is not hysterical for me to point out that this is a freedom which we are losing more of every day. I have pointed readers in the direction, ie offered proof, of learning for yourselves at least several ways in which this is occurring. While "net neutrality" is still available to us, I encourage you, for your own sake, to take advantage of the internet and find these things out for yourselves, so you will at least know, if nothing else, from which direction the bullet is coming. But maybe you don't want to know. Maybe you want "strings attached." Ah well, so be it. Good Night, and Good luck.

Fresh-food dieter eats his way to health

This country and our planet are under major assault by Big Pharma, Big Agra, Big BIG (in this country the Food and Drug Administration being the front man). If anyone understands this and how it is happening, you will truly appreciate what Local Burger means to this community in the face of this onslaught. You will truly appreciate what our food supply means to us. You will truly appreciate what freedom to choose what is healthy means to us. You will truly appreciate how buying local and organic is a BIG FINGER in the FACE of powerful interests who love to read the kinds of comments above that think somehow there is something "wrong" with the picture this story portrays. Local Burger provides patrons the knowledge that what they are eating is free from genetically modified and chemically saturated seed and food, bovine growth hormones, and potentially a whole host of health problems for which prescription drugs of dubious merit are the supposed remedy. Monsanto, Cargill, Merck, Bayer et al would all be exceedingly pleased to read many of the above comments. For more information along these lines, check out the links within the List's posts at the website JourneyToForever. And while you're at it, check out the National Animal Identification Act, Bush's Freedom Commission on Mental Health and TeenScreen, Merck and forced vaccinations of eleven and twelve year old girls with Gardasil, Hillary Clinton's and John Edwards' Health Plans for America that potentially provide for human chip implantation. Read Section 201(3) of the Real ID Act and Secretary of Homeland Security Chertoff's recent comments about how this Act will use your driver's license to work double- even triple-duty, he says, as a means for transacting business in this country. Whatever anyone doesn't like about what Local Burger is trying to accomplish is profoundly outweighed by all of us having lost and losing daily our right to choose health for our bodies. Get educated folks...and support Local Burger and any local merchant that supports local, organic and humane food production...while you still can.

Real ID Act

Two of the best websites I've found for complete and up to date info regarding Real ID are: 1) this one posted by merrill above:

http://www.epic.org/privacy/id_cards/; and

2) this page on the website of the National Conference of State Legislatures:

http://www.ncsl.org/realid/

The NCSL is, among other things, a kind of clearinghouse of Federal law of importance to the States.

Keep in mind what is most troublesome, I believe, is the language "any other purposes that the Secretary [of Homeland Security] shall determine." This language alone, I believe, necessitates Repeal of Real ID. Mere tightening of regulations does not address the potential for real abuse of what few liberties we have left in this country, especially in regards to our health care choices, which is too much to go into here, but appears to be the real, hidden agenda of Real ID.

Each of us needs to stay after our State and Federal reps to reject (State) and repeal (Federal) Real ID. They need to know there is a real groundswell of support for rejection and repeal of Real ID. Either we act now or we will be Acted upon.
