Speculation starts on who would run for Davis' legislative seat if he runs for governor

Having worked with the DgCo Democratic Party for nearly a decade I've seen the hard work and heavy lifting that Abbie Hodgson has done to help overhaul that organization. She's made our County Party more relevant, more independent, and more capable when it comes to running an operation separate from the flailing State Democratic Party.

A PhD student and a small business owner on top of all of that?

If she takes that same work ethic to Topeka, I'd be more than happy to cast a vote for her.

Lawrence ranked second-worst-performing small metro area, according to new national economic index

At least we're not Topeka, amirite? Anybody? Is this thing on?

Editorial: City salaries

Knowing many past and current commissioners, the one thing I always heard was "It's rewarding, just don't look at the hours you put in, or the paycheck the city gives you."

I think it may be time for an overhaul of our city's government. Council districts to make it more representative, an executive mayor, and a salary bump to attract a more diverse crowd to run for these offices.

Generally when an elected official votes to give themselves a raise, I roll my eyes. This might just be the exception to the rule.

City commission candidates weigh in on strengths, weaknesses of City Hall

Everyone but Farmer is critical of City Hall. Farmer is nothing but platitudes and generalities. I don't think he's actually taken a stance on anything in the last four months. I've seen your forum performances and your survey responses--have an opinion on something for once!

I really thought Farmer was going to be different with his Chamber ties and East Lawrence background. That kid is all platitudes and generalities. I'm really disappointed in him.

Business-oriented political action committee gets big donations, endorses Chestnut, Farmer, Riordan in City Commission race

I have been a supporter of Riordan's from the start and will continue to be. Child and family oriented, a quality of life focus, runs two practices--I think the man would make a fantastic city commissioner. A little sad to see him lumped in with Farmer who is all platitudes and no substance, and the Brownback crony Rob Chestnut.

City Commission primary: Amyx, Farmer, Riordan, Chestnut, Criqui, Soden qualify for April election

Way to go Dr. Riordan! Hopefully your strong finish in the primary will mean more support for you in the general. As both a business owner and a physician, I think your perspective will be an incredibly valuable one to have at City Hall!

Riordan leads Lawrence City Commission candidate field in fundraising, new reports show

Comparisons to GW? Well, that escalated quickly.

Keep in mind that Riordan has spent the last thirty years helping families (my own included) make some of the toughest decisions imaginable related to the welfare of their children and overall quality of life. I'd say he's one of the few candidates that deals with some pretty ugly realities on a daily basis, as a pediatrician and as a business owner.

Riordan leads Lawrence City Commission candidate field in fundraising, new reports show

Read the reports, beatnik, all the candidates are raising this money $25, $50 and $100 at a time. Not a lot of folks are giving too much more than that. This is about who wants it the most.

We'll see who is cutting who those max level checks in the general, though.

Good work, Dr. Riordan!
