Planning Commission recommends approval of Menards store for south Lawrence

"they aren't of the same demographic that would want to go to downtown Lawrence."

For individual Menards shoppers, I mostly agree. But couples on game days, on sidewalk sale day, art in the park, etc, could find one or both going downtown.

When will the SLT be finished as compared to when Menards is expected to open?

Hopefully they are now grasping the concept of giving the people what they want and can afford.

Next up, get Red Lobster or another seafood restaurant to come to town?

Lowe's is still welcome! They just need a better site, and hopefully are still interested in NW Lawrence.

Have you ever had a memorable summer job?

Yes, flipping Soylent Green burgers back on the home world. They had an odd, memorable odor.

As planners debate Menards project, new study finds retail vacancy rate at 7.2 percent citywide

Also the Wards and Gibsons buildings. Food-4-Less let the Gibsons building sit unused for a few year, but I heard they were still paying their rent so technically it wasn't vacant.

None of the big boxes on southern Iowa has ever been vacant for long. Even the original Walmart and Kmart buildings.

KU student killed in crash on U.S. Highway 59

This isn't the first accident there, nor death. At some point the economics for improvements make sense.

Sad, unfortunate loss. For the future would more signage, rumble strips, and flashing red lights on 458 help? That's what they did at Baldwin Junction before 59 was rebuilt.

Planning Commission to debate Menards project Monday amid signs momentum may be turning

By the way, Home Depot carries many brands that Menards doesn't. So I'd continue making purchases there too, both small and large.
