I return to find this, not very happy with losing the right to comment intelligently without the world knowing who you are and how to get to you if they wish.

City may rebuild Iowa St. for $5M

If you hadn't taken a cheap job from a contractor the last time we would not be paying for it again. The city is a scam artist, rob Peter to pay Paul mentallity and it shows. Other cities still have their great streets----done the same time as Iowa was here, and they have MORE traffic. Plugged holes with patches that cause slick spots and accidents. FIND someone who knows how to do it right the first time!!! Tired of this bait and switch on the jobs being done.

School board leans toward closures

Obviously it is time to get some Kansas Education laws changed so revenues are earnmarked for education and not the School Boards wish list. They will close those schools, then as in the past ,build a new one or two and charge the taxpayers again as a need. Not in the last 20 years have I seen anything but this occur. And they still get their turf and stadium lights while letting teachers and buildings fall by the wayside. The ignorance continues because I have seen first hand that moving those children into another school never came with anymore advantages but several disadvantages: larger classrooms,a need for transportation, higher taxes, and a loss of community. Enjoy your school board at work, they have tunnel vision and only a new law is going to change that. They have been given every reason in the past why not to close a school at no cost to them or the taxpayer and they have closed it nonetheless.

Corporate tax

There needs to be a distinction for Corporate Taxing: Those that provide jobs in the US and those who import most of the goods from other countries. Hence, a Corporation gets tax breaks from government, but squirrel the United States out of income from their few employees, because most of their other employees do not live in this country. They import the goods back in at lower import prices because the fascade it here, the jobs are there, and they can afford it with the cheap labor. Made in USA? ...well do your research, not necessarily. If tomorrow the entire world put America in an embargo, now what? What did not use to be a problem has become a big one. Protectionism?...No. Common sense.....that left with Nafta and Cafta.

Property values buck national trend

SPIN at its finest. Overvalued for years and people moving out in the last 3 as quick as they could fly because of it. Please, research.

School déjà vu

In this city anyone who doesn't believe there are alterior motives to requests for change, is as in the dark as the leaders you choose. Lawrence is a beggar on the doorstep in Washington and at home, but when you give them what they ask it is applied to other things, and again they return to your doorstep. They raised our sewer and water rates in 2004 to pay for the very sewer system that has yet to be built. Time's Up; where is that money???
