Lawrence’s health care provider for uninsured running out of room
HCA also provides medication coordination services with Patient Assistance Programs. People may not necessarily be seen frequently for office visits, but there is still an expense involved in coordinating their medications. I believe the $4 million figure represents donated services as well as actual care provided by HCA, as someone mentioned above. This is a resource sorely needed by our community and I am thankful it is there. I've seen it help many people that otherwise would have gone without care. They have helped me before.I'm a nurse, by the way, and don't have health insurance.

Gunshots raise homeowner concerns
"...a little girl was struck in the head by what may have been a stray bullet..."What does that mean, MAY HAVE BEEN a stray bullet? It clearly was a bullet, I'm sure you can ask to see the xrays since it's STILL IN HER HEAD!

Cancer patient slipping through cracks
When my dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, he did not have insurance. The surgeon (at KU Med Center) would not even see him for a consultation without $2000 up front at the first appointment.I hope none of you making these hard-hearted comments about these women ever end up facing a situation where $900 might make the difference between you living or dying.

Mother's fight for custody hinges on breast-feeding issue
As Agnostick pointed out, even if the mother was insistent upon the child receiving the breastmilk for nutrition, there's no reason why she couldn't pump it to provide it for the child when he is under his father's care. Breastfeeding a child that age should not be reason enough to exclude an external caregiver.

Parents react to bomb scare
I think something that needs to be considered is that when incidents have occurred, there was no warning. If someone is going to do something terrible, they're probably more likely to just DO IT than to spend time making vague threats to a 911 operator.
It's pretty sad that we live in a society where our children can't be safe at school.
